Hi there ,

My little guy just started thyroid meds a couple months ago. I didn't even pay attention to if something could or not be taken with it. What is it you avoid?

AH! According to the package: Zinc, Iron, & Calcium. (my guess is magnesium

too) -- you must wait at least 4 hours before giving them any of these

supplements. (As it interferes w/absorption.) -- It also says to be given

w/plenty of water. I also found that his " fiber drink " also cannot be given in

this time frame as it mops up the thyroid med. -- so I would also say charcoal,

or other items that mop up toxins -- which is why I had all of his vitamins

compounded as it took the stress off me on what to do. (I've got my hands full)

I literally sat down with all his stuff, and wrote it out w/a schedule that

could work. Then I tried it, and once I got it right, I did a workup - sent it

to his doc, explained what I was doing, and she concurred. I also found that

too many supplements interfered w/him eating, as it just took up space. I think

eating is more important than supplements, so I took some stuff out and made up

with it w/food. (mostly probiotics and digestive enzymes)

I added " iodine " drops though, at night before bed. I am hoping to get his

thyroid making it's own, rather than meds. He was on 125mcg synthyroid, now he

is at 88mcg -- and doing really well. So, hopefully, we can get it down again.

(I had him checked because he was getting tremors, hair loss, etc. and my gut

said " thyroid! " -- and sure enough, it was.) Because he has made such progress

in such a short period of time, we get it tested every 4-6 weeks.

I hope this helps!!

laura :)
