Armour, holistic doc and Pyroluria

Hi All,

Haven't been around much, but since we're talking about Armour again

I wanted to say that I got some and started taking 1 grain on April

18th then 2 grains on May 5th. I hope I'm saying that right. The

bottle says 30mg tablets and I'm up to two of them. I'll probably

need more but we're easing into it. I went to the holistic doc I

mentioned months ago and when I asked for Armour he asked why and

reached for the prescription pad as he was listening...catch

that...listening to my answer. He respected what I had to

say...wow! And he actually ordered all the labs we always talk

about here.

I started the pills on a Monday after I washed my hair and lost

plenty of hair like usual. By Friday I wasn't losing any hair!!!!

This doctor is holistic so he wanted to check all kinds of things

even though I was there for my thyroid. Fine with me. He wants me

to get my good intestinal bacteria up and get allergies checked.

The most interesting thing was he checked for Pyroluria. I haven't

learned a whole lot about this yet but the disorder causes vit B6

and zinc to be stripped from the blood. Symptoms include poor

stress control, nervousness, anciety, mood swings, severe inner

tension, episodic anger and depression. Does anyone else have

experience with this?

I'm keeping an open mind. He respected what I had to say and

addressed my concerns so the least I can do is respect what he has

to say and see what I learn from it. All along I've been willing to

address that I could have problems in addition to the thyroid but I

wanted the thyroid problem dealt with first.

So my two cents on the armour is that it's great so far and I'm

excited to see how it does in the next couple of months.

Is it expensive to see an Holistic doctor? I would love to see

someone natural but I have called around and it is expensive. But I

have not looked into a Holistic doctor. What is Pyroluria? Can you

ask your regular or Endo doctor to run a test for this or was it your

Holistic doctor who ran the test. It is so hard to get the regualr

doctor to run much more the the basic test on you. I am so sick and

tired of trying to figure things out on my own and my Endo only

worrying about my thyroid levels being in range and not worrying

about how I am saying I feel.

Thanks

Theresa

Thanks for clearing that up. Since I got the bottle I've been

wondering why everyone talks about grains when it's not dispensed that

way. I printed the chart...this one showed up!

You know the nice thing about getting the Armour was not the drug

itself but that the doctor listened to me. Synthroid may have worked

for me. Last summer I was feeling great with a tsh of slightly less

than 1 so the doc freaked out. The endo may have let it go there but

talking with him made me feel awful and I always had to be in fight

mode. This new doctor is different.

Trying Armour just made so much sense even though I seemed to do well

on Synthroid. Armour has so much more that we may be missing than

Synthroid and I couldn't see not taking Armour unless I had a problem

with it. So far so good!

Cheers,

Hi Theresa,

I understand your frustration! Try this website to learn more about

this specific doc: www.midwestwellness.com. I don't mean to say you

should see him, but you can get an idea on what this kind of doctor

is all about. It might be worth an email to see if he knows anyone

in your area that practices the way he does if you like what you see.

It was expensive for me. The first visit was $350 which included

lab kits and the second was $250 which included supplements. This

doctor doesn't do insurance so we paid out of pocket and submitted

the claim ourselves. We haven't heard back yet on getting that

claim paid. As for lab work, he had me send some samples to Great

Smokies and then went to a lab in town for other tests. I think

insurance is covering these. If you remind me I'll update you in a

few weeks on how that turns out. (email me personaly on the

update...this group is too busy to count on me catching it) He is a

doctor of Osteopathy (sp?) so I don't see a reason why he wouldn't

be covered under some insurance in some way. He's a real live doc

after all much like a chiropracter.

Pyroluria...I don't really know much more than I said in the other

post. I found a couple of websites that I haven't had much of a

chance to look at:

http://hamilton.id.au/pyroluria/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PyroluriaSympt

oms and http://drkaslow.com/html/pyroluria.html

I cut and pasted those addresses to make sure you got the page I

found so that should work for you. I have to admit that I don't

seem to have many of these symptoms but the lab work indicated a

need to get this fixed. I do have very pale skin that burns easily

and one little white spot on one nail, sensitivity to loud noises,

dry skin and headaches. I'll give the headaches to sinus trouble

related to allergies and/or thyroid and the dry skin to the thyroid

as well. But who says we can't have concurrent troubles. I'm open

to the possiblitly but also trying to be rational about it. The

supplements can really add up after all! The test was a urine test

at the lab in town, not Great Smokies. Maybe it isn't that out

there to request it from your doctor.

Hope that helps. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Do you have a repackaged bottle? Armour bottles, and all the 'brand' bottles that I've seen so far list both grains and MG.... I wonder if your pharmacy repackaged and didn't list the Grains????

I makes a HUGE difference when you know that the person that you are talking to is listening. My endo was like that... she had me bring my photo album in each visit (every two weeks that first six months) so that she could use that as a guide to see how I was feeling... it was that first year after my RAI that I moved into my home and designed and built my solar greenhouse... she watched the whole project through those photos...

That was the last year that I was ME.. and designing and building and growing... after that I started my downslide....

Anyway.. point is... that he's listening to you... and cares.... I guess I know who I may just have to check out if I ever get any decent money coming in!!!! That is, if you're willing to share him? hehehehehehe

It is repackaged courtesy of Target and their new colored bands to

avoid in-home medicine swapping. Not a mention of grains, but it is

the brand and not generic. Made sure of that!

It's Midwest Wellness Center and well worth every penny. Here's a

thought...for those of you that have flex spending, you can claim

your yearly amount upfront even before it accrues. So although our

year started April 1st and we've not come close to collecting the

$600, we'll be able to get it if we send in the reciepts from the

doc and pay the credit card we had to use to pay for the visits.

Handy for some. Useless for others. Sorry Topper...at least you

know the stuff you need to know!

Bloomington...quite a hike if you take 35W, but next time I go I'm

taking 100. It's off of France south of Southdale by quite a ways

but I think it would be a nicer drive. Did you catch the web site?

www.midwestwellness.com He's on 's list, but so was my other

guy...this one deserves to be there!
