Guest guest
Good going . Looks like you are getting past the cereal urge! Re: My Blood Sugar Results Hey all, This morning I was 200 so I skipped breakfast and dosed some humalog to break the high. I try to not eat when I am high since it just feeds the high. 2 hours later I was 80. I had 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast, did not dose anything for them since humalog was still in me and it had only been 2 hours so I was still at the peek. Two hours past eating the eggs I was 96. Regards, My Blood Sugar Results The 10,000 steps a day walking program that me and my wife are doing is bringing amazing results for me. Before starting this 5 and a half weeks ago, I weighed 276 pounds. My current weight is 245. That's about 31 pounds I have lost in almost 6 weeks. A normal blood pressure reading for me was something like 160 over 90. Now, any time I take my blood pressure it will be 120 something over 70 something. My sugar reading was hardly ever under 130. My sugar readings for the past week or so have been considerably lower. Here is how things went today. My morning blood pressure was 122 over 76. Pre Breakfast sugar was 76. For breakfast I had some garden fresh green beans, 3 garden ripe tomatoes and an 8 ounce glass of skim milk. Two hours later my sugar reading was 108. Pre supper sugar reading was 111. For supper I had a 12 ounce Rib-eye steak with Heinz 57 steak sauce on it, an order of lightly cooked french fries, a small garden salad with fat free Italian dressing, a glass of unsweetened tea and a cup of coffee with 2 creamers. Two hours later my sugar reading was 105. Then, me and Leisa (pronounced ) took a 3 mile walk. Boy, I feel wonderful. I am so thankful for the support that everyone gives on this list. It has encouraged me so much. In June when I last visited my doctor, I weighed 276, blood pressure was averaging 160 over 90, sugar was averaging about 130 and my A1C was 6.8. I will be going back to see her on August 31. Boy, I hope I can keep this up!!! Thanks again for all of your support. Guest guest
Hi Harry, Bare in mind, I am a type 1 diabetic so my dose will be much lower than what a type 2 diabetic may require. 1 unit of humalog will lower my blood sugar 15 to 20 points. I use insulin shots and not a pump. I was at 209 and dosed 6 units of humalog to lower my sugar to 89, 4.9. As a type 2 diabetic, it would be safe to say that 2 units of humalog lowers your blood sugar 15 to 20 points. That would be a starting point. Don't be surprised if it actually is 4 units of humalog lowers your blood sugar 15 to 20 points. Just experiment and you'll find the right dose. Guest guest
Not really, I cracked yesterday and ate 2 bowls of cereal! What the heck is the matter with me? *sigh*. We had friends over last evening and we were all outside while the kids were playing. My friend's wife started to tell me of her carbo addiction with cereal. She has 9 boxes in her cabinet. She is not diabetic, nor is she over weight, she just has a carbo addiction with cereal. Was a very interesting conversation. Guest guest
This morning waking up I was 263, 14.6. I ate two slices of watermelon last evening with guests over and 1 small chocolate chip cookie... I am disgusted with myself *sigh*. I told my wife today is a new day and I'm going to get back on my horse and get on the right path! Anyhow, I skipped eating breakfast, dosed 8 units of humalog to break the high, and two hours later that lowered me down to 90, 5.0. I try to break my highs as quickly as possible to prevent damage to my body as quickly as possible. Now that my high sugar is broke, I am gunna eat smoked turkey and some cubed cheddar cheese for breakfast. Since I am at the two hour peek, I will not dose anything to cover the meal as there are barely any carbs in it and I have 8 units of humalog carrying over from 2 hours prior. Guest guest
And I think this has to do with the fact that type 2 diabetics are insulin resistant. Guest guest
21.6 is the glr point drop per one unit of Humalog in this case dropping from 263 to 90 glr with 8 units of Humalog., a total of 173 point drop in the glr with 8 units of Humalog. Dividing 173/8=21.6 points. It is essential knowledge for any diabetic to know how many glr points are dropped by a single unit of Humalog no matter whether they are a type 1 or a type 2 diabetic using short-acting insulin like Humalog or Novolog. It is key knowledge in shooting for target. My Blood Sugar Results The 10,000 steps a day walking program that me and my wife are doing is bringing amazing results for me. Guest guest
In this case 120 glr point drop from 209 to 89 divided by 6 equals a 20 point glr drop per unit of Humalog dosed. Still essentil knowledge to have for any diabetic whether they or type1 type2 or pill mcformin and insulin user. Guest guest
But not all diabetics will use the exact same formula. Trial and error will reveal this. And, the formula will be different at different times of the day as well. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. (Proverbs 16:23) My Blood Sugar Results The 10,000 steps a day walking program that me and my wife are doing is bringing amazing results for me. Guest guest
Classes are finally over so let's see if I can get back on track! Woke up at 7:35 or so at 11.4 or 205 and bloused 2.7 units to bring that down. I don't know if I'll wait two hours to have breakfast but I'll try! Guest guest
And also things such as exercise or stress or hormones or illness/infection or any number of factors can affect the formula and throw off the results. Yesterday I dropped 4.3 or 77 points in ten minutes (I am not kidding!) because of the combination of a correction, insulin on board, and exercise. Later on that day I dropped 12.9 or 232 points in under two hours, not sure why, but again my formula of 1 unit of insulin dropping me 2 or 36 points was, for whatever reason, way off! I personally think it is hormones as this seems to happen every couple of weeks where I will spike and then corrections will make me crash, I haven't tracked it enough to know whether it's consistent, though. Guest guest
Are you telling me this knowledge requires experimentation on the part of each individual? If so, I can tell you the formula can be the same provided the individual knows the mean and standard deviation of his/her measurements. Armed with this kind of knowldege they can hit their target goal over 90% of the time. Guest guest
If you want to figure what your glr point drop per a single unit of Humalog is, it would be best to wait before consuming any more carbs or food before getting another glr. Guest guest
Harry, Reiki is an Eastern Modality. The essence of it is that you take each day one at a time. As I recall the promises go something like this: Just for today I will feel no anger, only love. Just for today I will show kindness for every living creature I meet. Just for today I will show respect for my teachers and elders. There are a couple more of these little things one says at the beginning of each day but I think you have the general idea. It is a mind set to live by because most anyone can determine to do something for just one day. This was one of the modalities we learned during the massage therapy course I took a few years ago. Guest guest
This is why experimentation is the only way to discover the reason for why? It is easily done, but it requires some effort on the individual's part. No pain, no gain. Re: My Blood Sugar Results But not all diabetics will use the exact same formula. Guest guest
I already know one unit drops me by 2 mol/L or 36 mg/dl. A person needs to know this before starting on an insulin pump as the pump uses this (along with insulin to carbohydrate ratios and a target blood sugar) to make suggestions for insulin doses. Guest guest
I understand your variability with your resultsand your frustration, because I have experienced the same with basal dosing and bolus dosing, even though my basal dose is pretty much the same practically all the time, since I do not have to deal with a menstration cycle. You know your readings vary with different conditions, but when? This is why I prefer to deal with actually doing, not trying to do. There can be a world of difference between the two concepts. This is why recording actual results and under what conditions and times can give you better information, and from a study of these results, actual glr's under the conditions obtained can reveal actual useful knowledge. Re: My Blood Sugar Results good thing to know. Now is it the same for when you are menstrating as it is when you are not? What is your glr drop when you swim for 30 minutes or walk for 30 minutes. This is what I call the E-factor, and is essential for any diabetic to know as well. To know one must record their results and under what conditions they were found in order to establish essential knowledge facts.

Guest guest
I think a big part of my problem is that in order to do experimentation you need at least a majority of factors to be the same. It's almost impossible for me to do that because my schedule is so varied. I could spend the next six weeks (vacation time) getting things all figured out, and then start work and school again in September where I'm running around to five different schools all day and studying all night and have everything go out of whack again. Then throw in menstrual cycles and stress and illness which are somewhat unpredictable and hard to even identify sometimes, and you've got even more of a mess! During the busy times are when my blood sugars are terrible but are also the times I can't keep any factors consistent and also don't usually have time to sit down and do detailed analysis of things!! I've thought of trying to do these things on the weekends when I can keep things consistent and, for example, control exactly when I eat and exercise, but then my readings on the weekends are completely different than they are on the weekdays when I'm running around all day, encountering different stresses, etc. I will post my blood sugars over these next few days and I suspect they will be pretty decent because I'm on break and have control over most factors, during these quiet periods I can often mange to stay between 4 and 9 (70-170), including after-meal readings, most days without difficulties. Very frustrating indeed!
