Guest guest
Pamela, I've had poor sleeping for years, it never occurred to me to go to a sleep clinic! I take a bunch of stuff that helps me sleep better. I was at the point where I never slept and was a wreck, and nowI sleep pretty good most nights. My sleep problems are related to fibromyalgia and anxiety, which are pretty much related to each other as well. Muscular pain and tension prevents me from sleeping, and this causes anxiety, and anxiety causes the fibro to flare up. I have taken amyltriptalene and it helped, but didn't want to keep taking it. I now take Nuerontin 600 mg/day, it helps a lot but is not near enough to produce sleep on it's own. Nightly I take: 3 mg. melantonin cal/mag 600 mg ibuprofen licorice (to buffer the ibuprofen) kava valerian I'm able to not take the kava and valerian sometimes, so skip it when I can. I also take lots of B vitamins which promote relaxation. I also am on natural progesterone, my sleep improved w/ that, but my TOM is screwed up. Regualar cardio exercise, regualar massages, and yoga helps too. Drinking alcohol or eating sugar & white flour together (like cake) basically guarantees I won't sleep that night. Low caffeine intake is very helpful as well, and none at all after 2:00PM. I do best when off it completely, but have grown to love my coffee w/ this WOE. I've never found a magic bullet, each thing helps some. I'm scared to be on a major antidepressant, and I'm scared to go off the Nuerontin although I'd like to be off all drugs. I've ordered some headache formula to replace the ibuprofen that has worked before. Sorry so long, thought you might find something here that is useful. Guest guest
Mostly because of the side effects. I'm trying to get off all drugs, I've gotten it down to 2, soon to be 1. Nuertonin is a powerful drug for chronic pain, and it also positively affects mood. I'd like to give it up too, but am doing so much better on it than I was before. Although I prefer to take herbs & vitamins, I don't want to give the impression I am against taking drugs if they are necessary or even helpful. Or that I think that because it is natural, that means it is always safe. This is strictly a personal decision I've undertaken with my own long term health in mind. If I got worse and was not able to correct most of my issues on the course I have chosen, I would (and periodically do) consider medical options.
