Guest guest
if its strep in the gut it's not going to show on a throat culture you would have to have a stool test for that one. they can also miss the strep spots if it's cronic in the adnoids or tonsils (many kids who have them removed find they they have host spots in the tonsils... Re: PANDAS ?To: mb12 valtrex Date: Sunday, March 21, 2010, 12:43 PM Rapids are only about 60% accurate and AAP states that any neg rapid should be followed by a culture. In my son's case his rapid was neg. We asked for a culture and was told no, I asked again and was given a lecture on how accurate the rapid was and about unnecessary testing blah blah blah. Guess what happened 6 weeks after my son's so called "non strep" infection? He completely changed, practically overnight and for the worse. It's 2 1/2 years later and my son is still not back to where he was prior to being sick. My son is a PANDAS kid and among a few other things that lead up to that strep infection, I believe his untreated strep is to blame. My poor kid was burning up with fever, couldn't swallow and looked like he was in agony. They told me he had Fifth's disease. I personally would take my kid back to the doctor and insist on the culture. Kerrie In a message dated 3/21/2010 8:54:04 A.M. I will be spending a day at school with him this week. He has a sore throat tho so maybe he did pick up a bug. Is it possible that a rapid can come back Meg even tho it is strep? That worries me. I don't like tho rapid tests. They don't seem to be as accurate.
