my daughter...

Hi all,

My 20 year old, daughter, Kara, no sooner came home from college(Arcadia U.,Philly),

and went to play with her siblings on our trampoline. She fell through a hole in the net onto

our driveway. I rushed her to the ER. She has a broken humerous. Though they think it

should heal with a hard plastic shell, after 1 wk. of a splint, it may need surgery, if it doesn't

heal properly.

We are trying to remain calm, and keep our wits. So our 2 funnies are these: she's put the

'break' in spring break; and having a broken humerous is not very humorous! She won't be able

to drive for 3 mos., and I'll need to drive back and forth once a week or every 2 wks. to have

it checked and x-rayed. Life is so unpredicatable. I know this is terrible trauma for her, but

as a mother, it did a number on me emotionally also. Just filling ya all in on my household drama...love, Kate

Ah Kate,......how awful. And painful! Those trampolines can be so dangerous. You just never know.

I'll keep Kara in my prayers and you and the rest of the family too.

I'm all too familiar with family drama.

Can you insist on head/body gear at least. Since this is something that classifies as a dangerous activity, I don't think it would be unreasonable. They are even considering making changes with skiing and requiring head gear after so many people have injured or died from accidents.

So maybe that could be a compromise if he wants to keep it?

My mom had a trampoline for the grandkids, and she kept it on the patio, of all places.....and she didn't allow high jumping, and only 2 at a time, but my son still bounced off into the springs. He wasn't hurt, but it scared the heck out of me!

Oh, I saw where you can get netting to put up around it too. Maybe that would be cheaper, and at least keep everyone inside the circle.

I feel so bad for her. The elbow has to be one of the worse injuries. I pass out too when I've been in a lot of pain after a few car accidents I was in.

When my son was about 8 he broke his collar bone playing football with the big boys, and they told him to "shake it off", so I didn't even know he was hurt for a whole week!!! Then the only way I found out was when I touched his shoulder and he yelled. I felt like such a bad mother........ after I took him to the Dr's, and it was confirmed by an x-ray.

The humerous is the bone between the elbow and the shoulder; it is a fairly largebone. You are a terrific mother. Thanks, but I didn't mean I was a bad mother all the time, but because of that particular incident I felt bad that I didn't know it for a whole week.

Most of my kids growing up years I had MS and other illnesses, and it was tough, but we all did the best we could. I regret it had to be like that, but I know it wasn't my fault.

Thanks for the encouragement anyhow! :-)

Hi all, My 20 year old, daughter, Kara, no sooner came home from

college(Arcadia U.,Philly),and went to play with her siblings on our

trampoline. She fell through a hole in the net ontoour driveway. I

rushed her to the ER. She has a broken humerous. Though they think

itshould heal with a hard plastic shell, after 1 wk. of a splint, it

may need surgery, if it doesn'theal properly. We are trying to remain

calm, and keep our wits. So our 2 funnies are these: she's put

the'break' in spring break; and having a broken humerousis not very

humorous! She won't be ableto drive for 3 mos., and I'll need to drive

back and forth once a week or every 2 wks. to haveit checked and

x-rayed. Life is so unpredicatable. I know this is terrible trauma for

her, butas a mother, it did a number on me emotionally also. Just

filling yaall in on my household drama...love, Kate

Kate,

My son broke his humerus a few years ago.

It was repaired with pins that stayed in for about 6 weeks. It healed great –

but he has a nasty scar. He tells girls he meets that it is from a shark

bite---- we all laugh at his “pick-up line.

Will keep her in my prayers,

Connie
