Guest guest
Wow, what CAN'T chiropractors do? They truly are experts at everything. Backs, rehab, acupuncture, massage, orthotics, wellness, nutrition - now medicine. Look out car mechanics, lawyers, accountants, and barbers - the chiros are coming for you too!  Someone in NM please tell me that physicians are laughing them out of legislative meetings?? Guest guest
Response from New Mexico Legislative Chair on Chiro Bill: Just wanted to let you know that our lobbyist has been monitoring the chiro bill that would allow them prescriptive authority since it hit the legislature. She is not giving it much hope, as they will probably get incredible opposition from the AMA on this one. Also, this would be a significant change in their practice act, and we don’t know if they have much research to back it up. We are not planning an outright opposition just yet, but will do so if needed (i.e. it gets farther without being killed). B. Stowers, Ed.D. Guest guest
Dear Colleagues: Either I am missing the point on this “conversation†or are some of you. Just in which way would chiropractors succeeding in practicing medicine affect our “physical therapist worldâ€? Remember the D.O.’s? Sounds familiar? Prior to being “medicalizedâ€, D.O.s had just a whacky principles as todays Chiros. Does the “law of the nerve†sound familiar? They left all manual therapy up for grabs and we took it (minus the whacky principles)...and they not only left us alone to do it, they like us to do it and refer to us, and not to the chiros. Once chiros go that way, they don’t go back...not that I think they should or they they would even succeed any time soon...I just plain don’t care. Really. Are you afraid of “taking orders†from a chiropractor too? Well. You shouldn’t be taking orders from anybody (at all) as it is! From NOBODY. This came across my desk: 1. We must stop " Getting By " , 2. We must stop being " Medical Wannabes " , 3. We must stop making stupid " recommendations of care " , 4. We must stop " Stupid billing and coding tricks " , 5. We must stop " promoting everything " (not backed by evidence) [i adapted this number 5 not to give it away], 6. We must stop being the " illegal immigrants of healthcare " , 7. We must stop " eating our young " . ____ Sounds familiar? It was written by a Chiro in a Chiro magazine. One more point I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE. Particularly to the N.M.P.T.A: The AMA will devote a lot of resource to ensure Chiros never gain ground on bills like that. As far as I can remember, PTs do not have UNRESTRICTED direct access anywhere in the US (just remember our Medicare requirements, before you tell me about our rights and forget to quantify that some places we have the right to perform evals but not to treat, or to treat for 21 days only, or the need to write plans of care and STG & LTG and so on and on). What better time to devote dollars to “detach†physical therapists from physicians and medicine and really fix our Statutes? Just some food for thought.
