My son Tommy was Dx with Autism when he was 2 yrs. 9 months. I knew

something was up a few months after he turned 1 but it took me over

a year to get a Dr. to listen to me. Tom went on the GF/CF diet the

day after his diagnosis. While the shock was wearing off, I went to

the bookstore and bought every book on Autism I could find, a total

of 3. Then I surfed the web. I came across and the G/CF

diet and went back to the bookstore. Within 2 days Tommy's behavior

changed dramaticly. He actually looked at me for a couple of

seconds at a time. His tantrums also became less severe. Best of

all his stims decreased. He would stim all day before. A few weeks

into it, his stools changed. He actually had firm poop!

For the past few months we have been cheating. I didn't see any

behavior or stool changes. After attending the DAN conference in

DC, I couldn't help but wonder if he would make more progress if I

tried this diet and became more strict? So here I am. In addition

to taking out complex carbs, the TV has been turned off. Yesterday

was hard. I saw increased stimming through out the day but he was

able to play connect 4 with me for an hour before bed. (yup, it got

real boring) :) He was even begining to become aware of stopping

me from getting 4 in a row. Today he has been more active with his

sister, Madison and even pretending.

In addition to the GF/CF diet, Tommy is on Vit./Mineral Supplements,

Digestive Enzymes, and Omega 3's. We chelated for about a year but

now we are taking a break. I hope to add the methyl-B12 next

month. I am sure there is a ton I am forgeting, more later.
