Back when he was 2.5 year old (before ANY diets) My son used to wake up in the morning crying loudly looking like he got beaten up with bruises on face, dark under eyes circle, staticky hair I think someone told me it was due to food allergies could your girl be allergic to apples, pears, whatever else you newly introduced or increased the amount/frequencies of? recently when we reintroduced eggs (IgG 4 he was allergic to it, we abstained for half a year and then reintroduced) he started having lots of crying, tantrums, stims, nail bitinf when I removed eggs he returned to his sweet calm smiley affectionate self I can't be sure this is the cause but it's seems a correlation for our case good luck mama Jzin Dimiter, ASD, age 3 GFCF since 8/03 Feingold, Rotation, Allergy elimination, etc since 10/03 almost all organic SCD since 12/

Guest guest
Hi , You are not alone in this. I was stopped and questioned by the principal of my 9 yr. old daughters school. She questioned the diet, how Abby looks. She said " we are so concerned because she looks so frail and also because of all her bruises " . She is bruising easy too and they are not healing up fast at all. She said " Abby's skin looks transparent! " I thought that was weird. She has always been fair but I am concerned about the bruising as well. She is still getting over this 3 month illness after 4 days with a fever and cold and I am starting to question this diet for us as well. We are going to do the " Metabolic Profile Analysis " from the Great Smokies Labs soon. It will tell a lot about her malabsorption issues and gastrointestinal function, dysbiosis, and neurotransmitters. We think it's a B vitamin problem but she can't handle those so will be looking into why. I have almost decided to put some foods back in that are not legal but still stay modified SCD but I do not advocate that for other people. How long has she been on SCD, because it may be die-off. My daughter has not handled die-off that well since she is getting sick from it. She could be having problems with the apples too since she may have problems with salicylates. I found out this was a big issue for us early on. Hang in there. Guest guest
> my five year olds director at preschool questioned re her diet and > was it medically documented or prescribed... -------------------------------------- This kind of thing makes me crazy. Has she stopped any parents and told them she's concerned because their child eats Mc's three times a week??? How can a child eat more healthy than this diet? It is a lack of information, knowledge and sense - if you ask me. If she is Celiac, can you find a doctor who is on board with SCD? It has been around for Celiacs for decades. ------------------------------------- evidently her behavior at > school has been so bad for the last few weeks, crying, chewing her > hair even more, actually until several inches were in such a mat we > had to cut off five inches, chewing on her shirt sleeves..letting her > hair fall in front of her face and hiding crying refusing to > particapate. ----------------------------------------------- I'm so sorry she is having such a hard time. Is it possible she is experiencing some major die-off? What is going on with her stools? Also, is it possible she is reactive to phenols? Some of these symptoms seem to be common among kids that are. Have you ever tried enzymes? > she is celiac she was gluten free, diary free, soy free, corn free > and sugar free until beginning this diet. now we have taken out eggs, > rice and potatos. I was just wondering why you pulled eggs? I'm assuming she reacts to them. Could you tell us more about what she does eat and drink? > is this behavior normal for this diet? also the intor diuction of > fruit has been a problem. we were only eating apples a few day. now > we are trying more apples cooked and peeled pears... Any increase in behaviors or worsening of bms can be a sign of die- off. It can also indicate consumption of illegals. We need to know more about what she eats, drinks and any supplements she takes. Is she eating the apples now cooked or raw? It is important that any fruit be peeled seeded and cooked, like you mentioned. > she is bruising so badly it looks like she has been abused. > > they want her to work with another therapist, and have a meeting next > week. i felt very accused of being a bad parent and crazey mother. I don't know what to say about the bruises. bruises easily, too, but so do I. He never looks " abused " , though - just like a kid who falls down on his shins, knees and elbows a lot (usually they are not in a soft place - almost always on a bone). If you have concerns she is eing abused, please take her to a doctor. Please hang in there. We are here to help you. Looking forward to hearing more about your daughter. son - 5yo ASD, SCD 13 months
Guest guest
--hi jennifer, thanks for your response..i have seen four celiac doctors. who have told me over the past to just keep going gluten free, that she is still getting contamination and that she is very rare because even when we took teh few packaged items out of her diet, she still when scoped had totally blunted vill like she had been ingesting gluten on a daily basis. the last doc i saw was the celiac guur in baltimore, i he said he couln't rule out refractory sprue and that she may never heal. i asked him about theis diet, which our allgergist and chiropracor recommended, he said it wouldn't work. the celiac docs are very by the book i could't get support around her food allergies possibly causing the blunted villi.(we have been to boston cildrens aand columbia in ny as well) regarding the behavior i suppose it could be die off, but they were such big protein and veggie eaters ,that they didn't eat much rice or potatos. never sugar or anything because they couldn't tolerate it. maybe the phenols, are they in the apples? pretty much the only fruit she can tolerate. i usually peel them , but she was meltig down when i was cooking them. the last enzyme i tried was by kirkman, i found after a whoel summer of hives the doc keep telling were misquito bites, that the enzymes are grown on mold. both my kids are really allergic to mold. th other enzyme which thye ate only for a few days before i realized were burning thier tongues, because i was opening the capsules, and sprinkling them on thier food. ultrase complete,i think it was called. it actually seem to work , i think i may try that again, i just had both girls tested for allergies, they are allgeric to: eggs(severly) almonds, cashews(severly) mustard greens protein in dairy tomatoes this is waht they eat: pork, chicken, turkey, beef, codfish, flounder, applegate turkey dogs brocilli, cauliflower carrots, squash(jesse only) spinach (eliza sometimes) celery, onion, ginger, garlic, rosemay thyme sage tarragon(all fresh) apples, once in a while strawberries(cooked) occasionally pears olive oil only, water to drink only i make a lot of meat patties, or boil the meat first with onoin and celery then slice it thin and fry in a little oil to make crispy. today i let them have only cooked apple, just a little. although jesse had too much butternut squash which went right through her.. i guess i will go back to acorn squash, and just a little.this morning before the after breakfast(befor ingesting the squash) jesse had a perpect poop. brown balls!!!and even smelled like real poop. eliza sniffed several illegals, which i think my husband has been significantly yelled at so it won't happen agian. diet coke, skittles (huge bag) and tofutti bars with the sandwhich outside. those made her sick, low grade temp to bed without dinner at 5:00 and a headache for forst time. sorry about the confusion on looking like being abused, both my girls periodically get really bruised mostly on thier arms. even just picking them up will bruise them, ot the dog playfully nipping. usually i link it to them doing reasonably well with meats, veggies and little apple. then i will feel safe to add something like a multi vitamin or enzyme, or more fruit like strawberies and before i know bruising. sorry this is so long thanks for your help. lisa eliza 5 yo celiac, week three scd jesse 3yo scd week three - In pecanbread , " jenniferandmiguel1999 " <jenniferandmiguel@c...> wrote: > > > my five year olds director at preschool questioned re her diet and > > was it medically documented or prescribed... > -------------------------------------- > This kind of thing makes me crazy. Guest guest
Carb content of the vegetables that you listed. Each value is for one CUP. Broccoli - 8g Cauliflower - 5g Celery - 6g Carrots - 16g Squash (butternut)- 22g Squash (acorn) - 30g Spinach - 7g So, even if your girls ate one cup of each of these (minus the squash since you mentioned only one of them would eat it...) it only comes to 42 g of carbs per day. The information the list members have been able to find recommends between 130-165g of carbs per day. 30-40 g of carbs will keep anyone in ketosis. I had mentioned juice. What happens when they drink juice? Also, I didn't see your answer about whether you have tried giving peeled, cooked fruits. What about bananas? Avocados? (Amount of carbs in one cup.) apple- 23g avocado-20g banana - 35g grape juice-38g peach- 14g pear-25g pineapple juice-35g strawberries-11g Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 15 months

Guest guest
Well, frying apples wouldn't be my first choice of a way to make them more easily tolerated. Frying foods generally makes them LESS well tolerated. You can mix fruit into their meats. You can cook fruit and puree it until it is very smooth, then even mix different fruits together and make popsicles. When you are giving bananas, are you giving very ripe bananas? No green on them at all, with some spots? When you give juice are you watering it down at least 50%? Have you tried avocados? They are pretty high in carbs. If they won't eat them plain, make the avocado meat loaf (recipe on pecanbread.com) or the avocado chicken salad. I have no quarrel with your chiropractor who says that they are eating enough veggies. That is probably true, but they are mostly eating veggies that are low in carbs. Your daughters' diet sounds almost identical to my MIL, who is purposefully trying to stay in ketosis because of her type 2 diabetes. The only difference is that my MIL eats very few carrots. Guest guest
-hi jody, yes the juice i have tried in the past has been more like 80% water and 20% juice. they have fit when the meats are mushy so i stoped-putting veggies because then they wouldn't eat the meat either. iam going to try making morefruit sauces (apple pear ) yes the bananas are very ripe. i just made walnut flour cookies.they only tested allergic to almond cashews pistachios. i told eliza her cookies were nut free. halfway through the cookie she said mommy you lied to me these cookies are making ears itch. so i need to try bean flour i guess. thnks lisa - In pecanbread , " Jody G.
