Guest guest
Pat, I assume your HGB number of 11.9 (I think that's what it was) is pretty normal for you? I seem to run in that range also, although my creatine is usually around 1.6. BTW, I had lab work done last Friday and will be seeing the doc on Friday. Unfortunately, I didn't get all the things done I usually have done due to an insurance conflict. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. (Proverbs 16:23) test results A1C 6.1 (up from 3 months ago) Total cholesterol 177 (down from 3 months ago) LDL69 HDL 63 Triglycerides 102 HgB 11.9 Creatinine 3.3 (down slightly from 3 months ago) Doc was happy considering all the other things I have wrong. I am, unfortunately, a vascular disaster!
Guest guest
Do you know at what point that will be? I've been as low as in the 10s, but as high as 12 over the last 15 or so years. Guest guest
I probably won't have the spelling right, but it's hemoglobin. Not glycohemoglobin which is the A1C test. The HGB pretty much measures the red blood cell count, among other things. For those of us with CKD (chronic kidney disease), our HGB is usually in the anemic range. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. (Proverbs 16:23) RE: test results What is the Hgb test measuring? Guest guest
The doc always chceck the Hgb becaue my kidney function has been so bad for last 3 years-stable, but bad!. If the HgB go much lower, he will have me an Araness injection. Re: test results Pat, I assume your HGB number of 11.9 (I think that's what it was) is pretty normal for you? Guest guest
I see my doc tomorrow (Friday) and might just ask about this. I don't especially want to add another drug to my already high number of meds, but I get so tired during the day some times. A nap almost every day isn't a luxury, it's unavoidable because of the anemia. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Guest guest
I've seen a nephrologist faithfully on an annual basis for almost 20 years, following an initial creatine clearance of over 3. I must admit, I haven't seen him in 2 years now though. He told me years ago that he'd never seen someone at my level revert backwards (to my 1.6-1.8 range), plus he also just shakes his head in amazement after analyzing my 24-hour urine which shows no, or next to no, microabulin (or however it's spelled). FYI, for those who don't know what that is, it's basically a measure of protein in the urine that the kidney spills, and which is supposed to be low or none. Guest guest
It is the hemoglobin level-or amounts of red blood cells to have tocarry oxygen around. When a person is in kidney failure, the kidneys stop producing a hormone called EPO and you can become anemic. But they have an injection yu can take which replaces the hormone. Guest guest
AS he usually has me have the injection when my Hgb is below 11 and definitely below 10, I fee much better within a few days after shot. But my creatinine is much higher than yours, so I think the doc takes more than one thing into consideration before giving the shot. It is very, very expensive. Thanks goodness for isurance. Guest guest
Are you going to a kidney doc (nephrologists(:? Usually only nephrologigists prescribe this, but for men especially the normal HgB is higher than for women, so I would think it would be prescribed if your hgb was under 12. Guest guest
Sounds like you are doiong okay Dave, but a nephrologists is the one to decide if you need Araness or not. Your primary doc might not be familiar with it. Re: test results I've seen a nephrologist faithfully on an annual basis for almost 20 years, following an initial creatine clearance of over 3. Read the FAQ at: http://www.bardtalk.com/faq.php test results Hi all In the time I've been a part of this list, I've never reported my A1C or any other results. And that includes since I signed back up a few months ago and when I was a member a long time ago. But I am sufficiently proud of my most recent results to report my numbers. Keep in mind that before March, I had not been to a doctor nor taking my meds for about a year and a half. Yeah, yeah, you can lecture me later. So when I first went back in March, my A1C was 11.2. My total cholesterol was 220. Now, after being on two oral meds for diabetes and a cholesterol med for the last three months, my A1C is 7.7, and my total cholesterol is 157. So, I'm very happy, and so is my doctor. I'm sure in the next three months my A1C will be close to 6.0, if not lower. Becky
