Unless Curves has just one exercise routine, it would be hard to judge. Unless

you plan to eat a lot of AP points (and some people do, it's just personal

choice), just count it as moderate. If you are doing the bouncy stepford wives

dance type aerobics, that would be more high intensity than doing the long slow

burn low-impact, which is more of a moderate workout. When in doubt, I

generally go with moderate. I get my AP's and I don't feel like I'm cheating.

And they won't let me in to Curves, not even to watch!

What if you wore a little makeup? (You know, like the Budweiser chicks

My wife who goes to Curves recently brought home a magazine with a rather

extensive article on Curves. In that article they state that up to 500

calories are burned during their standard workout. That is a tremendous

amount to burn in a 30 minute workout. I think we still have it at home so

I'll try to post the name of the mag that ran the article.

You can earn up to 4 Aps a day. Well, you can earn more, but you can USE

only 4. You can either eat them or bank them for another day.

It depends on how hard you work. I watch some women just sort of saunter

through the exercises, simply shifting from foot to foot on the recovery

stations. Others jog on the stations. I jog and do arm movements to keep

my HR up so I count it as high intensity.

Curves is just one exercise routine, but of course the intensity depends

on the person.

Stepford Wives? Hmmmm.

Legally they can't keep you from joing Curves. We talk about it

sometimes at our Curves. I would think men would feel very

uncomfortable, kind of like I felt the first time I wandered into that

den of testosterone, the free weight room at the YMCA.

I got over it, though.

Tory,

You know the Stepford wives movie, right? I had an old aerobics tape back in

the early 90's (filmed in the 80's) that had some high impact, and like many of

the tapes in those days, the women were all perfectly proportioned women

(complete with big hair and leg warmers) bouncing around doing things I had no

chance in H-E-double hockey sticks of doing! As to the YMCA, that is one of my

rewards to myself next month for getting the car paid off. I love my DVD

workouts, but it will be nice to have access to a facility where I can use other

equipment, try some different types of group workouts like spinning or

something, and just keep my routine from being so routine. I can't wait. Plus,

the Y is only 3 blocks from the house!

Actually, in Wisconsin, they can keep men from joining Curves. In May

of 2003, Gov. Jim Doyle signed a bill allowing single sex fitness

clubs. The story is at
