Guest guest
Hi everyone, This is interesting research on the placebo-effect (see link below) from Time health. Made me think about our discussions on use of modalities that cannot be supported by research yet but have plenty of anecdotal reports of positive effects. Before we throw all the devices away, be aware that they may work, but just not how they are researched to work. It won't be until we can be reimbursed using a system that rewards positive outcomes, not just procedures, that we can fully take advantage of the mind-body connection in treatment including the selected use of modalities that may work purely via the placebo effect. If you take into account a clinician's experience (as part of the evidence-based triangle) and their ability to understand when the placebo effect may work when other treatments won't and you achieve the outcomes desired and goals are reached, then is there anything wrong with using it (the placebo effect) in treatment? To look at it another way, is the growing body of research on the placebo effect enough evidence-based to warrant reimbursement for the appropriate use of it???
