Guest guest
To TMS and pom: Monolaurin can be purchased from Ecological Formulas, and dosage depends upon size/age of child and what you're treating. It is a good herpes anti-viral and a general anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. If a child had high herpes titers, particularly IgM, I would use acyclovir-Valtrex in addition to Monolaurin or Lauricidin. For persistent cold sores or other dermatological evidence of herpes, I would use 2 caps a day for smaller kids and 3-4 a day for bigger kids. Guest guest
Dear Tina: It depends on what you're treating and the age and weight and health status of the child - there is no one-size-fits-all formula. I'm curious to know if you had a child whose IgG testing for HHV6 showed " equivocal " as 1:40 with an IgM less than 1:20, would you consider treating him anyway? What about slightly elevated mumps titers? Besides HHV6 and the viruses found in vaccines, are there others you suggest testing for? > >For persistent cold sores or other dermatological evidence of herpes, I > would use 2 caps a day for smaller kids and 3-4 a day for bigger kids. My son has a chronic rash-like problem where one ear meets his face. It has cleared up very briefly a few times but then the skin breaks again, it crusts over and sometimes bleeds. Does this sound anything like a herpes dermatological thing? We used to think it was yeast because a mixture of antifungal and cortisone cleared it up for a few days once but after it broke out again, this has not helped. We can keep it somewhat at bay by putting cortisone cream on it several times a day but if we miss a dose it flares up again and it never goes away completely. Guest guest
Dear Gaylen: With an equivocal IgG test I would use monolaurin rather than a prescription anti-viral. The rash you talk about sounds very much like a herpes rash (no, neither parent has to have herpes!!). Cortisone will make almost any dermatological inflammation go away temporarily, but it does not heal anything, and I would advise against using it for anything except rare emergencies where breathing is impaired, especially in children. It does go in systemically and plays hell with the immune system and and eventually the endocrine system if you use it consistently , while not addressing the real problem. I definitely would get a Viral Panel #3 (along with a Chem Panel and a CBC to make sure his liver and blood levels are OK) from Immunosciences Lab in Beverly Hills if I were you (310-657-1077) and with moderately or highly elevated IgG levels or any elevated IgM levels, use acyclovir for two weeks and if no problem, move onto Valtrex. I really appreciate your input on this. It would be so wonderful if this would take care of his ear rash since it's been going on so long and bothers him. If my son's doctor feels he needs some input on this, would you be willing to talk to him directly? His background is in chelation but he's always willing to learn so will often seek out info on stuff we bring to him. We're considering seeing Dr. Goldberg on the viral stuff but aren't sure if it's a big enough issue with my son to warrant a trip to California. The tests you've recommended may help us determine if this is a route we want to go. Thanks, Gaylen
Guest guest
By Chem Panel I just mean an ordinary Comprehensive Metabolic Chemistry Screen which all labs do to check liver enzymes, BUN, etc. I do this along with a CBC + Differential + Platelets at the same time I draw for the Viral Screen so I will not have to do another blood test to make sure liver enzymes are OK if/when I want to start a prescription anti-viral in case titers are high. I also get the NK as a baseline (also done by ISL) to monitor progress as we proceed. When a rash keeps occurring in the same place with crusty scabs it is very suggestive of Herpes. BTW, Dr. Goldberg unless he has changed recently will terminate any of his patients who enter chelation (if he knows about it); he is very opposed to it, and as of a year ago stated in a public lecture I and my husband attended in Long Beach CA that he did not believe the tiny bit of thimerosal in vaccinations could possibly contribute to the development of autism, insisting that all his patients receive all mandated vaccinations. Guest guest
Great, we just ran a panel like that along with a CBC so now just need to get the virus panel #3 done. That should be interesting. On the monolaurin, is there any specific brand you recommend? Do you use the regular dose listed on the bottle or increase it? My son is ten and about 60 lbs. I do know about Dr. Goldberg's negative views towards chelation but am also impressed with the remarkable results he's accomplished with one of my friend's children who also tested only equivocal to HHV6. I'm interested to learn more about the immune system modulators he uses as well. I've never found a doctor or professional that I totally agree with yet and find it easy to pick out and do the helpful things and just respectfully listen to the rest. I've filled out his paperwork fully and honestly so he'll know Curtis did chelation. Our case is a bit different in that we had a verifiable source of arsenic poisoning from a golf course we used to live on that led to our choice to chelate and my son's chelation is complete so we will not be doing chelation while under his treatment. I figure if he's got something that can really help my son, he'll treat him. If not, we're supposed to look elsewhere. By the way, where do you practice and are you taking new patients? Have you done any work with Kutapressin or other immune system modulators? Gaylen
Guest guest
Gaylen: If your son can swallow pellets easily without biting down on them, the Lauricidin by Med-Chem www.Lauricidin.com is the best way to go. They provide the basic lauricidin which Ecological Formulas then makes capsules out of, and you need 3-1/2 caps to equal one small scoop of the pellets. He should have 2 scoops of Lauricidin a day or 3-4 of the Monolaurin depending on what you're treating. Please see the FAQ on my website www.Autism-RxGuideBook.com to read about my practice in So CA. I have never used Kutapressin, but do have a regime I use for immunomodulation, mostly with natural substances. However, some exciting work is going on which may be bringing a very useful agent forth sometime in the near future - I'll report when I know more and am allowed to talk about it. Guest guest
Jaquelyn: I have been reading this thread and I recently purchased your recent book. Do you practice here in California? Are you accepting new patients? We are seeing Dr. Goldberg, but I have to tell you Kutapressin scares me. there is no research but it has worked for some people. What is your view on Kutapressin? Are you familiar with Dr. Gupta from UC Irvine? We are going to see him also. I would hate to not try kutapressin if it will help, but I also hate the thought of giving shots. I would love a more natural approach. Are you seeing any new patients? --- JMcCandless <JMcCandless@...> wrote: > Gaylen: If your son can swallow pellets easily > without biting down on them, > the Lauricidin by Med-Chem www.Lauricidin.com is the > best way to go. Guest guest
I can't understand why Dr. Goldberg would think that thimerosal was not a contributor to ASD. When my son was diagnosed with mercury poisoning, Dr. Wakefield explained to me that if you added up all the thimerosal Spencer received in his vaccinations and then dropped it in a lab, the lab would have to be evacuated. If you need a special toxic waste team to clean it off the floor, why is it okay to inject into a baby? It seems like thimerosal is making mad hatters of our children. This logic particularly doesn't make sense coming from Dr. Goldberg. I've read his web site and he seems to have made some remarkable progress with this patients. Do you think that this is because when the child has a fully functioning immune system that they are able to overcome the toxicity of the mercury? Lynne BTW, Dr. Goldberg > unless he has changed recently will terminate any of his patients who enter > chelation (if he knows about it); he is very opposed to it, and as of a year > ago stated in a public lecture I and my husband attended in Long Beach CA > that he did not believe the tiny bit of thimerosal in vaccinations could > possibly contribute to the development of autism, insisting that all his > patients receive all mandated vaccinations. Even if he doesn't think thimerosol is a problem, it's tragic that with the MMR damage many of our children have that Dr. Goldberg isn't checking for the measles virus as have been found by Drs. Wakefield (bowels) and Singh (CNS fluid). I think if the and DAN protocols could ever be joined, it would be the best thing since chocolate was invented. Guest guest
The pellets are harmless but taste like soap with a strong aftertaste. My husband and I both tried them after we couldn't get Chelsey to take them anymore and understood why. I have implored Dr. Kabara to find a way to make this very valuable nutrient palatable. Older kids who know not to bite do fine with them swallowed in pear sauce or some such thing. Guest guest
Dear : I am trying to get another doctor to come train with me so I can see new patients; if you know of anyone who wants to work 60 hour weeks and is not into money and cannot bear to think that ASD (or any) children don't get all the help they can possibly have, please send them my way. I have not used Kutapressin; Dr. Gupta is wonderful but my understanding is that he only takes very sick children who have absolutely verifiable immune deficiency disease as shown by multiple tests; several children I know of who saw him did not qualify, though clearly autistic. Please let me know how your evaluation with him goes, as I would like to know more than I do. I hope the book is helpful to you. Guest guest
Jaquelyn: I think maybe Dr. Gupta is changing his heart. I had a consultation with him in March for my little autistic 5 year old son. My son, Luke, has no immune problems what so ever and he did say he would consider him for IVIG as long as I understand that it only helps about 33% of the children who try it. Just wanted to share this just in case other parents want to try it with their children they should know that he is more open now. It is very very expensive (about $4, 000 an infusion) and he will not fudge anything so your insurance will cover it. Anyway thanks Jaquelyn for sharing your knowledge with us, I appreciate your posts! God Bless you and your family,
Guest guest
Dear Jaquelyn, Do you have a waiting list that my 3.5 yo can get on, while you work on getting another doctor to join you. WE've been doing ABA with our boy, learned about biomed treatments only a few months ago, and have been working on GFCF diet and yeast issues. I discovered this list recently, and would like to start chelating. My sister (who is also named Jaquelyn) and brother-in-law are both MD's in So. Cal. They have an ADHD boy, but are doing the " traditional " route, i.e. Ritalin. I am dragging them both down to the DAN conference in San Diego this October. Hopefully, I'll get at least one of them to see the light. If you do have a waiting list, please would you let me know how to get on it. Guest guest
Dear : Thank you very much for sharing more recent information. I am several years behind, and I also think at that time Dr. G was doing a lot of reseach, which may have made it more difficult for people to get to see him then. Have you done it, and has it helped Luke? I am very interested in the oral IG which is undergoing research studies now. Any information would be very helpful. Guest guest
Dear Mike: I surely hope you can get your sister and brother-in-law to read my new book (see www.Autism-RxGuideBook.net). I've made it required reading for anyone to get on my waiting list. I'll send you my material, and if you are still interested, please ask me again around the middle of September. Guest guest
Jaquelyn: We havent done it yet and we might try the oral version first and see if that helps (since it is sooooooo much more affordable). I have an appoitment on the 24th of this month to discuss oral IG. I will share my findings when I get them. I ordered your book tonight and look forward to reading it! Blessings,
