Guest guest
" What Spices/Herbs Go With What Foods? " We are often asked this question. When we remove fat and sugar from a recipe, we lose flavor also. Making our recipes tasty is so important in our efforts to lose weight. We can quickly lose interest in any plan, if the food is bland. Here is a list of foods with the spices/herbs that will complement them. This list is from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. They strongly recommend using spices/herbs instead of salt in your recipes. A two-fold benefit to using spices/herbs. Keep the list handy when preparing meals. Beef: Bay leaf, marjoram, nutmeg, pepper, sage, thyme Lamb: Curry powder, garlic, rosemary, mint Pork: Garlic, sage, pepper, oregano Veal: Bay leaf, curry powder, ginger, marjoram, oregano Chicken: Ginger, marjoram, oregano, paprika, rosemary, sage, tarragon, thyme Fish: Curry powder, dill, dry mustard, marjoram, paprika, pepper Carrots: Cinnamon, cloves, dill, ginger, marjoram, nutmeg, rosemary, sage Corn: Cumin, curry powder,, paprika, parsley Green Beans: Dill, curry powder, marjoram, oregano, tarragon, thyme Potatoes: Dill, garlic, paprika, parsley, sage Summer Squash: Cloves, curry powder, marjoram, nutmeg, rosemary, sage Winter Squash: Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, Tomatoes: Basil, bay leaf, dill, marjoram, oregano, parsley, pepper Cucumbers: chives, dill, garlic Peas: mint, parsley Rice: chives, paprika, parsley I can't stress how important it is to be creative in your cooking while on a weight loss plan. Boredom with your meals can be the end to any good intentions. But... if you are on any type of medication, please check with your doctor before using herbs as they can certainly have an adverse affect with some medicines. I have planted herbs in large pots on my porch It is so handy to just go out and cut fresh ones. Good project to do with your children this summer, if you live in the USA, or Canada. I know it is winter in some other countries. But you can try raising some in your home in a sunny window.
