Guest guest
15 weeks today, and my appointment was yesterday. My OB did another US, on her rusty old machine, which is so fuzzy to me! She and DH kept pointing out body parts that I really couldn't see, although I did make out the spine and the cloudy outline of the head. Baby is measuring 15w4d, HB 164. My OB checked my cervices (looked at both, but again, the secondary cervix is hard to access). She says they both look great, and so does my mucous plug (she said it was " a beautiful mucous plug " ?!?! didn't know you could tell that by looking). I will have an in-depth US (Level II, I guess) at 18 weeks, at which time my cervix will be measured. She gave me some ideas of signs to look for (pressure, cramping, contractions,increase/change in discharge, etc.) that would indicate problems, and that I can come in to see her anytime if I feel there's a problem. She feels that after 22 weeks we should be home-free in the cervix department. She has even given me the go-ahead to cross-country ski (no downhill, of course!) this season if I feel up to it. I asked her about the likelihood of vaginal birth - she says for sure, unless there are other factors (breech, for instance). I just wonder about the 2 cervices, and if both will dilate, or what will happen. It will be interesting - but I really, really want a vaginal birth. I gained a bit of perspective about my OB's professional situation - she is one of 2 OB's in our city of 42,000 (yes, it is considered a city!) and we are also the intake for high risk pregnancies from outlying communities (scary thought). The other OB is on maternity leave herself as of February, and there is no indication she will be replaced - leaving my OB alone. I asked her if she would be attending the delivery, or the on-call OB, and she kind of laughed and said 99% her - but probably 100% her given the above situation! Oh, and I have gained 3lb in the last 4 weeks (and maybe 4-5 lb before that?). I am certainly starting to show. I am feeling very positive and happy about this pregnancy. I feel extremely lucky, too, to finally have some hope after 2 m/c. It fels pretty unreal sometimes. Thanks for listening, sorry to ramble.
