Guest guest
I am still researching and in checking our supplements on the illegal list I noticed Ultra Flora on it. Is this the Ultra Flora from Metagenics? And can someone tell me why it would be excluded? Also the Centinol from Metagencis would it be excluded? Guest guest
Welcome Becc, > Is this the Ultra Flora from Metagenics? And can someone tell me why it > would be excluded? The ultra Flora contains bifidum bacteria which are illegal. For details please see http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/bifidus.htm If you are looking for legal probiotics please see: http://pecanbread.com/probiotics.html#brands and http://www.lucyskitchenshop.com/acidophilus.html > Also the Centinol from Metagencis would it be excluded? According to http://www.metagenics.com/products/catalog/detail.asp? pid=97 Centinol contains inositol which is also illegal, it will feed harmful bacteria. Guest guest
Hi Becca, > So to clarify most people on SCD use Custom Probotics or the Lucys kitchen shops Acidophilus? Those that use probiotics do; some also use another one (vegetable based)but the name escapes me at the moment > > The reason for this is because the other strains of probiotics group together and multiply in the wrong amounts. But these products above do not do that. Close but not quite. Elaine has spent a great deal of time checking out probiotics and is only comfortable with the L. acidophilus by itself in a probiotic (capsule, powder). There is a great deal of positive information on the L. acidophilus that has been documented for decades. Many of the other strains are the popular " in thing " for the moment, or have different as a different way to market their product. Some strains like bifidum bacteria are linked to bacterial overgrowth and are not necessarily a good thing when they remain in high numbers past infancy. The L. acidophilus tends to place nice and fair in the body and helps prevent other bacteria from gaining a foothold in the body and does not tend to overgraowth like others. Please see http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/bifidus.htm and http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/yoghurt_cul tures.htm for additional explanantions. Hope this helps, Sheila UC, 20 years -- in remission after 38 mos SCD mom of SCD 23 mos
