About an hour and a half after correcting 11.4 I am down to 7.7. I still

have 1.5 units of insulin on board, or insulin that has yet to work to lower

my blood sugar. This will lower me an additional 3.0 points down to 4.7 or

85, which is actually quite a bit lower than my target of 6.0 or 108.

I will eat breakfast now and bolus for 50 grams of carbs, taking the 1.5

units into consideration, which equals 4.4 units. If I am high after this

meal then that means I shouldn't have taken the 1.5 units off my bolus, but

we'll see!

It likely does vary with exercise and my menstrual cycle, as my insulin to

carbohydrate ratio varies as do my basal rates. Basal rates can range from

20 to 26 units a day depending on how active I am and where I am in my

cycle. I:C ratios can vary from 1:8 to 1:12 depending on the same. I've

never experimented much with changing my sensitivity factor (ISF) in

relation to these things. Part of the problem is that the effects of even

them do not seem fully consistent. Sometimes I crash low the day after

exercising and sometimes I don't. I try to keep records every day and

respond with tiny changes in insulin and seem to do okay with that. These

last three weeks have been chaos so one of my first priorities now that I

have six weeks of freedom is to fix my blood sugars and get them back to

where I could go all day staying between 3 and 10.

Re: My Blood Sugar Results

good thing to know. Now is it the same for when you are menstrating as it

is when you are not? What is your glr drop when you swim for 30 minutes or

walk for 30 minutes. This is what I call the E-factor, and is essential for

any diabetic to know as well. To know one must record their results and

under what conditions they were found in order to establish essential

knowledge facts.

Taking into consideration the actual dose and the time factors and their

durations is another one of these complications a diabetic needs to know as a

fact, not a guess. Talk about frustration. Isn't this shooting and counting

carbs for accuracy a barrrel of fun!? Experimentation can be a pain in the ass,

not to mention the fingers

About an hour after finishing exercising at 6.7, 121 and my 0.5 unit bolus

to avoid a high in case I reduced the basal rate too much. I definitely

reduced it too much and I probably shouldn't have reduced it at all. Blood

sugar is now 12.1 or 218 and I've eaten nothing, so I'm blousing a 2.75 unit

correction.

I am proud of you for checking each move you make on the glucose monitor. It is

the only way to record results, not guesses.

I agree with you. Typically I test 8-10 times a day. Certainly before dosing

any insulin, as well as before exercise or to make sure things I'm doing are

working. It is especially important now when I'm trying to get back under

good control.

Way to go girl, woman. Most diabetics believe only in testing once or twice per

day. I believe only the frequent monitors will become blood glucose masters.

Tested an hour and a half after correcting 12.1, 218, and I'm still 11.1 or

200. I ate a 15g snack and bloused for that plus a correction. I think my

basal rates are definitely too low.

Hey guys,

Sunday morning my pre-breakfast was 78, 4.3.

I ate a few chicken chunks, nont-breaded strips of chicken, dipped in brown

mustard and a cheddar cheese stick. I dosed 3 units of humalog to cover the

meal.

my two hour post was 89, 4.9.

Next up is lunch...

Hey Jen,

I know you know this already, but I wanted to post it for others... if your

morning sugars are running high, skip eating any carbos prior to bed since that

will help your morning sugars be lower.

Eat something such as olives with some cheese, a few peanuts, stuff like that.

Regards,

RE: My Blood Sugar Results

Before lunch I am 8.2 or 148. My basal rate is probably off since I've been

waking up high every morning, I will have to do some overnight testing to

figure it out.

Here is where things will get interesting! I am having a very carb-heavy

lunch (eating out and did not realize till I got it that what I ordered had

so many carbs!) and blousing for 100 grams of carbs, which will be a bolus

of 10 units. However, I'm planning on going on the stationary bike for about

an hour after lunch, probably within an hour or two of eating, so I'll

reduce my bolus to 75% or 7.5 units, and also set a temporary basal rate of

80% starting now. The basal rate changes should start to kick in about an

hour from now, so about then is probably when I'll exercise.

I am usually pretty good at getting exercise right but I haven't done it for

three weeks and also not after eating so many carbs, so we'll see how things

go!

Oh yeah, eating on campus presents some challenges. Maybe try to find a salad or

something healthy to eat etc.

Re: My Blood Sugar Results

Jen, good for you, I was 124 before breakfast, I had one activia yogurt and

now just before my one slice of whole grain bread and tea spoon of creamy

peanut butter, I was 136, and no, I am not happy with that, but after the

fact, all we can do is keep trying

good luck

sugar

RE: My Blood Sugar Results

An hour after eating lunch I am 9.8 or 176, which is great for

exercising. I

hope to exercise on the bike for an hour without going low.

I test 10 times a day... waking up, pre-meal, 2 hour post meal, prior to bed,

and any other time I feel low.

Our blood meter is our best weapon in this fight!
