Lab Costs

Hi all,

I just received an itemized bill from our local lab that really surprised

me. I always get them, but since we just pay a co-pay for each draw I have

never really looked at them until today.

I don't know about the rest of you, but most of my docs and former endos

have balked at doing the FT3 and FT4 saying they are too expensive and

insurance companies won't pay for them, or are not happy about paying for

them...thought you might want to see this list...keep in mind that my FT3

must be sent out to be done, it goes to San Capistrano.

T-3 FREE (RIA) $52.00

T-4 FREE $46.70

and for the standard TSH which everyone is so fond of doing...

TSH $60.70!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that. No more *cost* issues as far as

I am concerned as the FT3 and FT4 are CHEAPER than the stupid TSH which

really is so inaccurate for us. Now to convince my endo to run the TSH

*maybe* once a year if it will make her feel better, as for cost and

reliability the other 2 tests are much better for us and as one can

see...cheaper.

Jody
