Hi guys,

What IS it with this bread stuff??? OK, I love good bread as much

as anybody, but don't have a bread machine. My sister emailed me that

she was making bread today (the old-fashioned way.) She, too, has a

weight problem- a very BIG weight problem. She keeps talking about

trying to lose, but she never makes a real effort. I worry so about

her health. She left her job last May and hasn't been looking all

that hard for another- she had quite a career at GE Reseach and

Development. I think it's harder to lose weight when one lives alone,

or is alone much of the time. She's never been married, and now with

all this time on her hands... I think one way to approach losing

weight might be to first keep a food journal for a week--- see

exactly what and when and how much one eats. Then, try to figure out

how much of it is " emotional " eating (the comfort food thing- which I

do too) and how much is due to medication and the lack of exercise.

Go from there.... for me, having the kids and the church activities

and outdoor stuff in good weather keeps me relatively active, as far

as getting out and about. I HAVE to many times when I really don't

feel like it :( Also when my mind is really focused and interested

in something actively (TV doesn't count), I don't think about food at

all. Least, not much. You can all tell me to go fly a kite, 'cause I

could be " all wet! " No snow here yet- it's all 3+ hours away!

Here's my thinking about diets

(1) I don't even remember what sex is all about

(2) I don't smoke

(3) I don't drink (maybe 2 - 3 a year)

(4) My stress level is way high

(5) I will try to eat sensibly

But I will NOT go on a really restrictive diet

Been there Done that.....all under supervision

of dietation....in 3 months I had lost under 2 lbs.

I was always hungrey, miserable & not nice

to be around.

Look at it this way.....food is my only sensual

pleasure and I'm giving it up completely soooo

you may all pelt me with chocolate chip cookies

Actually, Teddi, you are very sensible in your

outlook. It isn't about dieting at all...it's about

being healthy.

I make very poor food choices...I tend to be OCD about

food and all the bad ones...so I have some head work

to do about taking better care of myself. Plus I just

dread yanking myself out of the house to go to the

pool, although I know I'd probably love it once I got

in it!

Oh well,
