Guest guest
Hi Kathy, You have handled so much already that you definitely can handle the yeast die-off/regression at the 12 to 13 week point. I am seeing less verbal stimming today and the grunting has toned down also. So we have had 8 days of really stimmy behavior but today it is definitely better (in case you were wondering about a time frame). We have only added some echinacea during this time period so he still gets the Kirkman DMG (2 at each meal), MSM (500mg at each meal), Nature's Life Milk-Free Acidophilus (4 X/day), and the echinacea (3 X/day) and the miconazole on his lips to prevent the yeast rash around his lips. He is still constipated, but I'm giving him steamed asparagus again for the next few days to see if it softens the stool again. Someone on another list mentioned that beta glucan helps kill the yeast and also helps with the constipation......I wonder if it is SCD legal!! I wish I could be more encouraging but I'm just a few weeks ahead of you and going through the same doldrums....I'm hoping for better things to come. How did the No Fenol work for Abby? Is it having any effect with the tomato juice? Hang in there and take care, Becky in Chesapeake, VA with 10 yr old on SCD 13+ weeks
Guest guest
Hi Becky, I know, I won't quit because I do see good effects from this but when they are so BAD you say, " why am I doing this! " So maybe we are at the 3 month point a little early............it does say in BTVC at around 2-3 months. How does your son handle the DMG? Our new DAN doctor, Dr. Mumper, mentioned it but I told her early on it made her hyper. She is wondering why Abby can't handle that as well as all of the B vitamins as well. That is why we are doing the Metabolic Analysis Profile. She thinks there may be a neurotransmitter problem as well and her constipation is definitely more motility than true constipation. She really wants to be able to start B-12 with Abby too after we get this testing back. I haven't really been using the no-fenol. I guess I am afraid of the hyperactivity and problems I saw with the banana but for some reason she handles the tomato juice and does not pick her nails or anything with it. I was more afraid of accumulation issue with it. Thanks for all the encouragement!!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Yes, I know what you mean ( " why am I doing this! " ), especially after spending 75% of your day in the kitchen!! My son does wonderful on DMG and has been the only thing that we have seen a big change in him as far as language and calmness. You need to give your daughter Folinic Acid (Kirkman has a legal brand, 800mcg/day) with the DMG to counteract the hyperactivity. But if your daughter didn't do well with the DMG, then try the TMG because some do better with that than the DMG. It has to do with the methylation issue which the DAN researchers are getting closer to figuring out on our kids. The only problem is that it's not a one size fit all treatment solution. So what works for one child, doesn't necessarily work for another child. That's the way it is with DMG and TMG. I want to try the TMG because it adds one more methyl group to his biochemical pathways but I'm not sure if he would do well on that since he does so well on DMG. I will probably buy a sample bottle from Kirkman's and see how he does on that. As for the motility problem, I wonder if bethanecol with Cod Liver Oil or creatine would work for Abby. Did Dr. Mumper go to the DAN conference last month (sheesh, can you believe it's May)? They mentioned Creatine which according to my Murray book is: " ...used in muscle tissue for the production of phosphocreatine, an important factor in the formation of ATP, which is the source of energy for muscle contraction and many other functions in the body. " So maybe it could help with the motility in her intestines. I think bethanecol has to do with the neurotransmitter in the gut, but I never understood the principle (Dr.Megson's theory) and it didn't work for our son. In fact the Cod Liver oil actually made my son have visual stims which stopped when we deleted the cod liver to do the SCD.....very interesting. Anyways, just some thoughts. As for the No-Fenol, it didn't help us either but our son doesn't have a big Phenol issue although we do have a tendency to minimize phenols in his diet just as a precaution. By the way, he had a huge log today which were the balls all stuck together....maybe the asparagus helps with the constipation also....we shall see. By the way, remember I mentioned that the grunting and verbal stimming went down yesterday....well it occured to me this morning that I gave him one capsule of folinic acid yesterday....could that have been the reason the stimming went down? Maybe!!! I am going on with legal supplements and chelation and sticking to the diet as much as I can. I just can't wait anymore to resolve the constipation, especially when there are no gains in language or behavior.
