Hi, I am also frustrated with my daughter's very slow progress with language. She learns words and loses them, cannot remember a word she has hear a hundred times. I am going to have her checked for seizues. She has just turned 4. Can I please ask anyone who has found their child was in fact having seizures, how they treated this and if they subsequently saw an increase in language.

Thank you

Hi Elena, I don't know if you saw my post, but my son had the same thing

(learning new words, losing ones he knew) awhile back. His language progress

was VERY slow as well and I tried EVERYTHING to help him with it. I can tell

you what we did and the order we did it in, but I can't say exactly what stopped

the LOSS of language and allowed him to finally start building on what he had.

Here it is:

-GFCF diet (no results)

-DMSA challenge found some metals (made him worse)

-ALA chelation (no changes that I could see, needed lithium, choline/inositol to

tolerate chelation)

-Restricted diet further than GFCF (positive behavioral changes)

-DMSA with ALA (asked his first question, sm. language improvement)

-Stopped DMSA with ALA because dose was too high, he was intolerant

-Big time improvements after 6 months of chelation and a couple months break

(body normalized after metals moved out?)

-Improvements faded, behavioral improvements stayed as long as diet was in place

-ALA chelation (no changes I could see)

-Tried L-Carnitine + Zinc speech protocol for 1-2 months (no change noted)

-Started 10,000 IU Vit A + 400 IU Vit D and (5mg Vinpocetine X 3/day) and saw

good improvement in speech noticed by others as well.

Like I said, I am not sure WHERE the forgetting words stopped and he started

building on language he had. Mind you, he is still very limited, but he has now

went from single word requests, single word identification of objects to

answering questions, looking at people and talking to them in very simple

phrases, asking some questions, commenting with a few words (not just one

anymore) and referring to himself as " I " and not " you " (we are still working on

this, but he will correct himself). He still has phrases he repeats often and

still has a definite pronunciation problem.

I hope this may help you a bit. We never had him tested for seizures.
