NYC Nephologist Needed

Hi Phyllis,

I am sorry to hear about your cousin being on dialysis. I live in

California, so I can't help you out on a referral, but wanted to welcome you

anyway.

One word of caution on the diet is that your cousin's diet needs to be highly

customized according to his personal lab values. There are no hard and fast

rules and what is helpful for some may be harmful for another. One recent

example this week was Amy's low phosphorus which required her to eat high

phosphorus foods where that would have caused havoc to another member struggling

with

high phosphorus.

Perhaps he could see another Nutritionist?

Can anyone recommend a GOOD nephrologist in NYC? My cousin (age 55) lost one

kidney due to juvenile diabetes and is on hemodialysis. Yet, since he falls

under the category of Medi " care " he has not found a personal doctor to guide him

through this further complication in his life.

I've researched and e-mailed reams about diet, nutrition, vitamins, etc. But

I'm no doc. And the nutritionist he went to was a moron. So, if you could

offer any recommendations, suggestions, guidance, connections, referrals,

whatever...it would be most appreciated.

Thanks very much and best wishes for a healthy, happy, peaceful and prosperous

new year.

Best regards,

Phylis Feiner

Hi !

Happy New Year and thanks for your reply. Yes, I know that my

cousin needs a nutritionist, but he needs sooooo many things, that I

thought if I started with a good nephrologist, the doc could/would

make some recommendations. Where in California do you live?

Best regards,

Phylis

The reason I asked was that we go to Napa a few times a year. But

that's the only area of California I'm remotely familiar with!

Wishing you some sunshine...
