Guest guest
Hi PH, At least now you have it pin-pointed to the metals and you can begin healing? Do you know why he put you on the armour thyroid? I am starting a program with the candida national center and I have a phone consult with them on Wed. I have to do a stool test which tests for yeast, parasites, and bacteria so at least I'll know what I'm dealing with. From there, depending on the results, the dr will create a program for me. I am still seeing my naturopath because I can see him face to face and he'll help me with the program. I also have an appt with him next Thurs to get the results of my food panel and he's going to talk to me about having the hormone testing done. I feel now I am on the right path. How have you been feeling? I'm so glad that I found you and this group because I don't know what I would've done! Guest guest
Hi Steph, Mercola put me on Armour because I had slightly high thyroid antibodies and low T3. Both were borderline normal so he said it was up to me if I wanted to take Armour or not. Based on what the other women have said on the forum and the fact I've felt like death, I decided to take it. I'm not starting it right away only because I just started my pregnenelone and DHEA combo. I guess I just want to make sure I know which one is giving me problems if I should happen to feel worse. Glad you are working with someone locally as well as the National Candida Center. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds there and are on the right path. Thanks for the comment you left the other day on Myspace. Sorry I haven't kept up with my private stuff. With typing the updates on my recent Mercola visit, I've neglected my personal email for a few days. Yes, I'm glad you found this group too, as we're all in this together and each one of us is contributing to the health of the other with support, laughter, advice and encouragement! Guest guest
I had my test run at the office of an 'enlightened' MD .. Dr. Lieberman (www.coem.com). They ran a DMSA challenge. You take DMSA (a chelation agent) and they measure the subsequent amount of heavy metals excreted in urine. This gives an indication of the amount in your system. You can also do a hair analysis (it is not as accurate, but it can test for both heavy metals and nutritional deficiencies). I believe there are some lab tests you can find by web to do the hair analysis, but you'll probably need to go to an MD for the DMSA challenge. I've finished 3 months of the protocol and am starting on my 2nd round. I've been told that it could take years. I think they are going to retest me after this next round to see where I am at. I'm not doing anything specific to the brain right now, but I do want to address this. > > > > Hi PH. I've been doing oral chelation with DMSA for mercury. Guest guest
Hi PH, I wonder if the armour thyroid would help me?? said that it's definitely worth looking into. I think it may help with my hair. Right now I'm fine except for the occasional eye pain? Didn't you say that you sometimes have that too? It's ok that you weren't able to reply back to me on my space. Between us not feeling well and our personal lives, it's hard to keep up sometimes. I hope you feel better! Guest guest
Hi Rogene, Yes I have a foot bath. When I mentioned it to Mercola's doc he said I can keep using it but to make sure I am taking in lots of fiber. He didn't seem to have an opinion one way or the other about the effectiveness of it but I didn't ask either. Next time I'll see what he thinks. What's really weird to me is that when I first started doing the foot baths, I had tons of black indicating metals. Over the period of a few months, I had cleared so much that the water was only light orange w/ some yeast on top. I took a couple weeks off the foot bath and then when I started up again, TONS of black again. I know fumes are one source of metals but it just seems odd to me that it would be almost clear and then so bad within a short period of time. What does your water look like after using a foot bath regularly for months or years? Love, PH > > PH, > > Do you have a foot bath? . . . One of our silent sister's said her Dallas neurologist told her that he had started using foot baths rather than IV chelation because chelation was pulling to many good minerals out. > > If you get a change, would you ask Mercola's clinic what they think of foot baths and how they compare with Oral and IV Chelation? > > I don't think we're going to find any straightforward answers to our problems. . . Guest guest
Hi Steph, I don't have experience with Armour yet but I know it's been discussed a great deal among the women here in the past. I'm going to start it in about a week. Yes, it should help with hair loss and energy too. Yes, I had eye pain and it was pretty severe. Definitely make an appointment w/ an eye doc for peace of mind. It's probably no big deal as other women have had the eye pain without major consequence, but you want to make sure they check your pressures. I went to an opthamologist and my introcular pressure was 37 (normal is 10-20). They thought I had glaucoma but I didn't meet the criteria for age and other symptoms. They put me on Xalatan which I am trying to wean myself off of. I had vision loss and distortion but it is improving. In fact sometimes my vision is almost normal so I know it's just a matter of getting the toxins out. Sometimes it still feels like one eye's muscle is too tight around one eye...just subtle annoying odd things, but from what I've read, it disappears over time. Guest guest
Hi Steph, Xalatan is " used to treat high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle type) or other eye diseases (e.g., ocular hypertension). It is similar to a natural chemical in the body (prostaglandin) and works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye which results in lower pressure. " It's in eye drop form, but I wouldn't worry about what you're experiencing now. There's a very good chance you won't need this and there are definitely side effects. I never felt comfortable taking it but I didn't really have any other choice, given that I was losing my vision. I've been weaning myself off of it and my pressures are still within normal on the days I don't use it. I also think detoxing, diet and time has allowed my pressure to return to normal. I don't think there is any other woman on the forum who has had elevated eye pressure (that I am aware), yet many had eye pain. So, it may just be something you have to deal with but it diminishes over time. Most likely it's not a case where you would need the Xalatan. Yes, I have redness as well from dry eyes/hypothyroid but that too is not as severe as it was. I occasionally use Systaine eye drops from Walgreens at night, but it also contains unwanted chemicals. Flaxseed oil and omega 3 fatty acids are helpful for dry eyes - not putting them in the eye but making sure they are part of your daily diet. Guest guest
Thanks PH. Like you said, just to be on the safe side I made an appt with an eye doc very close to where I live. The soonest appt was Jan 2 so I took it. I'd rather be safe than sorry and since it's literally down the street from where I live it won't be an inconvenience at all. How do they do an eye exam? Guest guest
Hi Steph, Great that you've got an appointment just to be on the safe side. The exam is just a basic eye exam and a pressure test where they put numbing drops in your eyes and measure the pressure. It doesn't hurt at all. Be sure to ask for a vision field deficit test, which is where you look at lights and press buttons when you see it...sort of like a video game. Also, be sure you are seeing an opthamologist and not an optometrist. When it turned out that I had a huge blind spot (which is going away) and that my pressures were very high, they sent me to specialist after specialist. It was a nightmare!! If I had it to do over again, I would have never endured all I went through...DON'T make the same mistake as I, it's wasted time, money and torture. I saw probably 10 neuro-opthomologists and other eye specialists, had a VEP, ERG, eyeball ultrasound, retina flueroscein angiogram, every test imaginable...all kinds of things that were NOT pleasant, and ALL came back normal!! So there's no need to go that route. After reading some posts at www.breastimplantsupport.org a few of the women endured the same symptoms, had the same agonizing tests and again, all came back normal. So, I believe this is something docs just don't understand. When I tried to tell each doc that many women I've been communicating with have the exact same symptoms, they still acted as if it was all in my head. Yet, at age 39 they want to diagnose me with glaucoma which doesn't run in my family and which is generally not found in someone under the age of 60! When I asked them if toxins can affect eyes and vision, they were very quick to say yes. Yet, they said I didn't fit the pattern of CENTRAL vision loss which indicates toxicity, so they didn't think my problem was due to toxins. My vision loss was the lower third of my left eye and then sometimes peripheral...it varies day to day, hour to hour. It's so frustrating, but it's so good to know that so many women no longer have the pain and blurriness, redness etc. Just be patient. I'm trying to be too! Love, PH > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I just returned from Mercola¡¦s and wanted to share his > > > > > staff¡¦s > > > > > > > > suggestions: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am relieved as well as totally confused¡Kwhen the doc > > > went > > > > > over > > > > > > > my > > > > > > > > stool and urine tests, they were negative for yeast, > > > fungus, > > > > > > > > bacteria, parasites, etc!! Guest guest
Hi PH, What's the difference between an opthamologist and an optometrist? I'll have to double check which one I called. I've spoken to some of the women on that website also. I mainly have talked to Beth and she told me she has the eye pain too. Guest guest
Hi Steph, An opthamologist has much more education than an optometrist and have more experience with unusual or special eye situations. - PH An Optometrist is a health care professional who is licensed to provide primary eye care services: to examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal diseases and, in certain states in the U.S., to treat them; to diagnose related systemic (bodywide) conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes; to examine, diagnose and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia; and to prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low vision rehabilitation and medications as well as perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies. An optometrist is a Doctor of Optometry, an O.D. (not to be confused with a Doctor of Medicine, an M.D.). To become an optometrist, one must complete pre-professional undergraduate college education followed by 4 years of professional education in a college of optometry. Some optometrists also do a residency. An Ophthalmologist is an eye M.D., a medical doctor who is specialized in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery. They may also be involved in eye research. After 4 years of medical school and a year of internship, every ophthalmologist spends a minimum of 3 years of residency (hospital-based training) in ophthalmology. During residency, the eye M.D. receives special training in all aspects of eye care, including prevention, diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of eye conditions and diseases. An ophthalmologist may spend an additional year or two in training in a subspecialty, that is, a specific area of eye care. > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > Hi All,> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I just returned from Mercola¡¦s and wanted to share > > his > > > > > > > staff¡¦s > > > > > > > > > > suggestions:> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am relieved as well as totally confused¡Kwhen the > > doc > > > > > went > > > > > > > over > > > > > > > > > my > > > > > > > > > > stool and urine tests, they were negative for > yeast, > > > > > fungus, > > > > > > > > > > bacteria, parasites, etc!! Guest guest
Happy Saturday to you too Dede! What have the docs said about your BP? Unfortunately I haven't come across a doc who knows what to do for my low BP, so I don't have any advice to give ya. Seems like they know what to do for high, but not low. I want yours stabilized soon!! I hope you enjoyed the movie w/ your dad. I need some good movie suggestions! I hear you on spending quality time together. That's all that matters anyway. Sad that none of us realize that until we're ill. Why is that?! I used to get into the presents and gift-giving and it just does nothing for me this year...seems so superficial and just wasteful accumulation! My brother and his girlfriend are coming in for the holidays. Then we'll head an hour south to my parents. My youngest is 8 and so this will probably be his last year of believing in Santa. So, my brother is going to dress up in a Santa suit and go on the roof and we'll surprise the kids. My uncle did the same for me when I was 8 and it's one of my best memories because I truly believed...although a month later, I learned it was all a lie, so maybe it's kinda cruel! LOL The bookmark with the stone cross sounds really special. Things like that are so meaningful. You and your dad are so lucky to have such a close bond. You won't believe this but I'm holding a 4 week old baby girl right now. I've got one of those slings on and she's napping away. I'm babysitting for my hair stylist and this little sweetie has been an absolute angel. Makes me want another of my own! Well, take care Dede. Guest guest
Good morning, Dede. My challenge is going fine. I don't feel any better or worse...don't know if that's good or not, but I hope it's working the way it's supposed to. Dede, we need to fix you, girl! Is there any way your sis can take you in to see your doc about the burning sensation? Don't laugh at this question, but do you feel you have a doc who you trust? You should see someone if this burning continues. Have you tried any new meds or supplements just prior to when the burning started? Oh, I loved the Notebook! My grandma had Alzheimers and so the movie really hits home. Such a tearjerker...very bittersweet. I haven't heard of the Fastest Indian in the World. I'll have to check that out. Krista suggested The Holiday. I've already seen it but it's so cute I want to rent it again! It's a feel good movie. Well you hang in there Dede. Still sending lots of prayers to you and your dad. Guest guest
Thanks for the info PH. I'll definitely have to find out which one the dr is. How is your challenge going today?? Do you think the eye pain could be part of Fibro? We got 6 inches of snow today so I've been sitting home all day just chillin in my bath robe! I basically did some house work and laundry but I just want to relax today! Guest guest
Hi PH, I called the doc today and he wan an optometrist but the office gave me a referral for an opthamologist. I called them and they have an appt today at 2:20 so I took it. I'm going there right after work. I'm so happy that they could get me in right away and now I don't have to wait until Jan. Guest guest
I'm happy for you Steph! Now you can be at ease over the holidays instead of having to wait for the January appt! I hope it goes well. One thing my doc recommended for the puffy eyelids is to put a warm wet washcloth on my eyes for 10 minutes a few times a day. It's sort of a hassle but it does help. Also, over time, my eyelids stopped swelling. Now the only time they're puffy is on the rare occasion if I've stayed up too late. Guest guest
Thanks PH. I know I'll be relieved once I go but I'm nervous about the exam. The receptionist put me in for a full eye exam. Did you doc ever say what the puffy eye lids were from? I will try that when I get home. Do you still need to use the drops for the eye pain? Guest guest
Hi Steph, Don't be nervous about the exam! Basically they just test your eyes like a regular exam and then they put some numbing drops in your eyes and measure the pressures. Doesn't hurt at all, you don't really feel anything and it's over in two seconds. It's the standard eye exam. They may also dilate your eyes so they can look further into them so make sure you have someone to drive you home. Also bring your sunglasses because your eyes will be a little more sensitive to sunlight for an hour or two afterwards. Seriously, the worrying is worse than the exam itself. Don't forget to ask for a visual field deficit exam just to check for peripheral sight. I can't say for sure what causes the puffiness other than I've read it's associated with hypothyroidism. My opthamologist said my tear ducts had irregular patterns of oil production that may have been clogging them, yet another doc dismissed it. I think it may be hormonally related but I can't say for sure. Yes, I still use the Systaine occasionally. I notice if I cry, my eyes really burn. I thought it was toxins at first but I think it's just dry eyes. If your eyes are super dry, which mine were the first few months after surgery, you can use Thera Tears at night. My opthamologist recommended it. It's super lubricating so just use a drop or two in each eye before you go to bed. You can find it at Walgreens. My doc told me to use it for as long as I needed which ended up being a few months. Now it's too moisturizing for me. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi PH, I shouldn't have been nervous about the exam! It was easy. He said that everything was fine and my eye pressure is 16. He did put the drops in my eyes to dilate them and everything was blurry afterwards! He said that he didn't know why my eyelids are swollen. He told me to put a warm cloth on them a few times a day...just like you said! He said that I have 20/20 vision and said to come back next year for a standard check up. I'm glad that's over with! Guest guest
Thanks . I had a session today in the far infrared sauna and I loved it. It was so relaxing and my eyes actually feel better! I'm going to schedule another appt next month! Steph > > Steph, > > I am so glad you went and got some relief from the eye doctor... Guest guest
Thanks PH. How have you been feeling? I wish he could've at least told me why my eye lids were swollen but I'm happy my results were good. I have a follow up with my naturopath path tomorrow and I'm going to talk to him about testing for my hormones/thyroid. Do you know if a blood test or a saliva test would be better for testing?
