Catch 22

I recently relocated from Virginia to Mobile Al. I was sure that I would find

very little resources here for my 3yr old son. Surprisingly I found more than I

ever imagined. There is a preschool here for ASD children. They provide 25 hours

of ABA a week. They also assured me that my child will recieve one on one

assistance the entire day. Pottytraining, Ot... Etc... Problem is, they do not

recognize the GFCF diet at all. She physically cringed when I mentioned it. She

mentioned there is no scientific tests....yada yada yada... They use goldfish

and skittles for reinforcement... I know that would drive my son crazy. Did I

mention the school is paid for by the city ??? Free, well only a $225 fee for

the year out of pocket. She said I can bring a doctors note explaining any

allergies.... But I know that won't completely prevent them from giving him

gluten especially after our GFCF convo. Will Activated Charcoal be strong enough

to deactivate the infractions

that are sure to come?

Hi Margo,

I recently went through this myself. It's good that the school is paid for by

the city. That means the have to follow F.A.P.E(free appropriate public

education), a federal law. Yes, do get a letter from your son's doctor,

basically listing your sons enzymes, charcoal and probitics(any that he needs to

survive the day. Anticipate accidents).

request to hold a health protocol meeting, in writing. I emailed everything, I

created a paper trail, evrything that was discused was documented. There for

when they didn't follow the doctors protocol or when things really didn't feel

right I sought a lawyer. I had to sue the school district, but by doing that my

son receives the following paid by the school district: 4x a week speech,3x OT,

music,horse back therapy, a air purifier, vent filter covers, a 1on 1 aid, 2

nurses that educated everyone in contact with my son how to disenfect tables,

desks, toys before he's in contact with them. Part of his schedule, at 10am he

is given a enzyme in his juice to break down casien and carbohydrates, since his

muffins are Pamela's(all i've had sucsess at), have a milk in them. At 12:30

after luch he is scheduled to receive his probiotic, " multi vitamin " (everything

my son needs mixed in 1 container, the school doesn't have to know what's in the

" Multi " )

I hope this helps. You can email me directly if you'd like to discuss more in

depth. GOOD LUCK! Let them know that his health affect his mental development,

you don't need any proof other than the doctors " health protocol " . An

appropriate education means the need to accomidate his special diet " prescribed

by his doctor "

oh yeah, I bring my son equally loved snacks and food. I make sure I know all

the birthdays, when the date gets near I call the parents of the child's bday

and ask what are the bringing for the school celebration. If it's cake, I make

my son cake and put a new car on top, he's more interested in the new car than

the discusting cake I'm still trying to figure out how to bake. Ice cream, our

own gluten free cones. He has microwave organic, no salt or oil, popcorn for the

class popcorn replacement. It's going to take a little more work out of you, but

ur kiddo in the end will be not backtracking with his diet. Instead of gummy

bears my son gets Stan's B12 lolly pops. Ask for a list of snacks every week,

because they do change. You go shopping for an alternative to each poison goodie

on the list......
