Guest guest
Hello everyone, Well yesterday ended up becoming rather interesting. I ended up going to the ER, because I really wasn't sure what else to do. I am actually glad that I chose to do this. After I sent you all the message, I just started to feel worse. I didn't eat much yesterday, just a roast beef sandwich on white bread, with nothing on it, and some water. I didn't put anything on the sandwich, because all I had was some mayo, and I didn't think that would be a very good choice. Anyway, I started checking my blood sugar more frequently, just because I did feel so bad and I wanted to know what was going on. It's a good thing that I did this, because it kept going up. When I decided to go to the ER, it was 453. Unfortunately, my neighbor was not home, so I decided to take a cab. I wasn't about to call an ambulance, if I didn't have to. A friend of mine decided to come with me, because she felt that my speech was a bit slurred, and I did seem to have trouble putting sentences together, or getting my words out. Well, when the cab was called, we were told that they would be there in about 20 minutes, it took more like 45, then we had to get my friend who is about 15 minutes from me. When we finally got there, I was really out of it, I still knew what was going on, but I felt like I could barely walk. I felt very out of it. When the nurse asked me my phone number, I couldn't even think of it. Anyway, it took some time before they checked my blood sugar. They came and drew blood, started an IV, and just did an initial assessment. By the time they checked my blood sugar, it had gone down to 170. I could communicate a lot better, but I still felt pretty sick. The doctor told me that I had a lot of sugar spilling into my urine, and that this was why I needed to go to the bathroom so frequently. They had asked for a urine sample. They contacted my regular doctor who wasn't aware of what my other doctor had done yet, or of his thinking that I was diabetic. However, the ER doctor asked him about prescribing a medication, and that's what he did. He also notified the doctor who was giving me the diagnosis, to let him know what was going on. Now later this week, I have to see my regular doctor. Now I am not so sure who will be setting everything up, but the ER doctor said that usually your regular doctor does this. Heck he hadn't even done any blood work yet. Although, I haven't been seeing him for very long. I was given Glucovance. I am to take it twice a day, with meals. I am hoping that this will help. Now if I understand correctly, this medication is actually two meds in one? Does anyone know if that's right? So that is the latest with me. I will keep you all up to date with how everything is going. Today I am going to get help running a test on my friend's meter. I want to make sure that it is giving me accurate readings. Someone told me that if my blood sugar was that high, that it normally wouldn't have dropped that low, and that quickly on it's own? What do you all think of this? I know how to run the test on the meter, but I need some assistance with it. I don't know which bottle of solution is which, and my friend said that you have to use one before the other. Thank you for reading this, and I will post again soon. Terri
