Ambulance Drivers Can't Do That

Need a little help here...

During protocol review and revision my medical director asked me to

contact the local dialysis center and see what they use to access a

fistula/shunt. He wanted to follow the same guidelines and

techniques they used. So I made the call....

" My DON told me that EMTs and Paramedics can't do that. She said

there is a rule somewhere. You can talk to our medical director, but

he is going to tell you the same thing. That is a big no-no. "

Has anyone ever seen this rule? Does anyone else access fistulas for

critical patients?

Let me know what you think...

Neil
