Guest guest
Can anyone help me with some input? My son is 10 years old with autism. He has been SCD 100% for 7 1/2 months. Last week we introduced hazelnut yogurt made from custom probiotics yogurt starter. He got 1/4 teaspoon every other day. This week we increased it to 1/2 teaspoon which he's had on Sat.,Mon, and Wed. We are seeing difficulty falling asleep, increased eye stims and stimming in general, and decreased spontaneous language. He is regressing. What is going on? Is this a sign that the yogurt is not good for him? He also takes custom probiotics L Acidophilus ( 1 level small scoop ) in the morning and before bed. Guest guest
We are seeing difficulty falling asleep, > increased > eye stims and stimming in general, and decreased spontaneous language. Has he tolerated hazelnuts before? I think it sounds like die-off - a lot of probiotics going into his body and crowding out the baddies. I would like to see a combination of bad and good, though. Have you noticed ANY improvements? You could back off either the yogurt or the probiotic and maybe give one or the other for a few days and see how that goes. Also, even though the recommendation is 1/4t and increase gradually, some kids need to say at the lower amounts for a longer period of time. has been on the goat yogurt for several weeks now - still not more than a couple of spoons per day... He's a very sensitive guy when it comes to certain things. Take care, son - 5yo ASD, SCD one year and one day

Are you putting anything in the yogurt, to flavor it? Just wondering, might help us know for sure what's causing this effect. in NC Mom of Luke, age 5, Asperger's/low-salicylate; , age 3; and , 21 mos All SCD since 1/26/

I think it sounds like die-off - It has to be stressed that the yoghurt we all make at home - goat, cow or nut - is extremely powerful. It cannot be compared to any store bought product. And then if it's dripped, the concentration of probiotics is even higher. I do think you are seeing die off. I am very curious about his poop. It will tell me more. Guest guest
, My son has eaten hazelnuts and had hazelnut flour before with no problems. Right now we are not seeing improvement. I guess we have to wait more time. He was due for yogurt today, which we did not give him because he was so out of it yesterday. This morning he blew his nose a lot, maybe seasonal allergies ? I think we'll try yogurt again and go back down to 1/4 teaspoon every other day and do this for weeks. This is so frustrating. He was doing pretty well with just the custom probiotics. My son is extremely sensitive I guess. Could this be considered improvement ? My son said to me this morning , " Let you bite me. " This is a game we play together. I am the dog or monster and he tells me to bite him which I do with snarling noises . He usually would say only " bite me or I want bite me. " Today I noticed he added the , " Let you " and then " Bite me " . Also crying this afternoon for his father he said " I go Daddy " He usually would say " I want Daddy or I want hi to Daddy " Another question If this is die off do all the weird stims and behaviors eventually go away and all your left with is the good stuff, like more language and relatedness? Theresa Thanks to all Re: Help! Introduced Hazelnut Yogurt We are seeing difficulty falling asleep, > increased > eye stims and stimming in general, and decreased spontaneous language. I can't say that all the weird stuff will go away - for us, it's been a rollercoaster - up and downs. However, the overall improvement is steady. I like to call the bad days hiccups, because he is doing so amazingly well. Just hang on to the hope, it will carry you far! Just that he communicates with you at all is something!
