We are using Imunovir, valtrex and an antibiotic(for strep). I think it is fine to use all 3 at once.....they are all bound up together (metals, viruses and bacteria).

I would double check on whether you can take amantadine and valtrex at the same time. Immunovir is an immune modulator so it's fine but I would def check to make sure amantadine and valtrex are okay together. These two antivirals may not be safe together. Obviously, I don't know the answer.

Good afternoon, I received this direction from Neurosensory Centers of America. Let me be more specific.Amantadine is taken at night. I ensure that there is at least one hour separation between Valtrex and Amantadine at night time.I will call Neurosensory Centers of America and double check what the recommendation is as far as the time separation between Valtrex and Amantadine.Thank you for letting me know.JerryTo: mb12 valtrex From: cheryl.lowrance@...Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2010 10:02:55 -0700Subject: Re: Valtrex , Amantadine, and Immunovir: Is this overkill?

Let *me* be more specific: It's not the time that would concern me, it's taking two antivirals. I would double check to make sure that taking them simultaneously is safe. If it's not safe to take them both, it doesn't matter how much time you put between them.

Good evening, Cheryl,I did not mean to come off as disrespectful or as an a$$. I just wanted to be specific in that at one dosing I was not giving both Valtrex and Amantadine. Now, after what you said in regards to the amount of time between two antivirals is not the real concern, but the concern is taking two antivirals in a day is irregardless of the separation of time. From my notes from the session with the doctor from the Neurosensory Centers of America, I have that Valtrex is for DNA virus (Herpes Zoster, etc) and Amantadine was for RNA viruses (MMR,etc) as the reasoning for both medications. If you are concerned, then I am very concerned because the Neurosensory Centers of America is prescribing this combination almost as a default.I know my son has Herpes issues and MMR issues. But I am really concerned about your comments. I was under the impression that this combination Valtrex in the morning and Amantadine in the evening was not a big issue of concern.I will be calling Neurorsensory Centers of America again tomorrow. Thanks,JerryTo: mb12 valtrex From: cheryl.lowrance@...Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2010 15:10:46 -0700Subject: Re: Valtrex , Amantadine, and Immunovir: Is this overkill?

Let *me* be more specific: It's not the time that would concern me, it's taking two antivirals. I would double check to make sure that taking them simultaneously is safe. If it's not safe to take them both, it doesn't matter how much time you put between them.

I would double check on whether you can take amantadine and valtrex at the same time. Immunovir is an immune modulator so it's fine but I would def check to make sure amantadine and valtrex are okay together. These two antivirals may not be safe together. Obviously, I don't know the answer.

Good morning, all,

My son has MMR issues resurface again. In addition, we are still using Valtrex to address herpes remnants.

I finally was able to get my DOC to prescribe Immunovir.

Is giving Valtrex, Amantadine, and Immunovir to much?

Thanks,

Jerry

Lol! I didn't think you did. :) I'm only concerned because I've never heard of amantadine and valtrex being Rx'ed to our kids at the same time. I'm not at all saying that it can or can't be, just that I would want to make sure. I say this because you're only the 2nd person that I've met on here that has used amantadine with our kids. I don't know if it's safe or not. Amantadine inhibits replication in both DNA and RNA viruses, not just RNA - which is why I would be concerned about taking the same type of drug at the same time. I suppose if they do this all the time, they think it's safe so I'm not sure asking the ones who gave it to you is going to change anything. :) I would also want to know what they are treating with it. From my limited knowledge of it, it only treats parkinson's and flu and drug induced movement disorders. It could certainly be treating a virus we aren't aware of or not publicizing, same thing has been said about Valtrex. I have no clue. Amantadine seems to be getting used for fatigue so I would think a good place to look at is if it's being used in CFS.I am *not* a wealth of knowledge on amantadine - don't take what I say as anything more than questions *I* would ask. This could be perfectly safe. I have *no clue.* Please don't panic over my saying anything. It may be wasted energy! :)Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~

Good evening, Cheryl,I appreciate all that you have shared. When people like you raise concerns, my rabbit antenna ears are definitely raised. The last time I went blindly trusting doctors my son was stuck with the MMR vaccine and here we are.I will definitely get some outside opinions and see what turns out.I do know this. We have been on Valtrex consistently. The amantadine was subscribed to address the MMR per NeuroSensory Center of America. We did about two to three weeks when both Valtrex and Amantadine were given on the same day (We gave Valtrex for a month by itself first). Then my son had a rash. I thought it was a reaction to amantadine so we stopped, but now I realize it was his MMR being pushed out.Well, we saw MMR come back so we did the same thing. Valtrex was still given this entire time. This time he seemed out of it. Like he was happy and then could change into a frightful, always looking around/anxious when we introduced Amantadine. We quickly stopped the Amantadine. The doctor recommended working from 1ml up to the recommended 5 ml.Again, thank you.JerryTo: mb12 valtrex From: cheryl.lowrance@...Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2010 20:53:34 -0700Subject: Re: Valtrex , Amantadine, and Immunovir: Is this overkill?

Let *me* be more specific: It's not the time that would concern me, it's taking two antivirals. I would double check to make sure that taking them simultaneously is safe. If it's not safe to take them both, it doesn't matter how much time you put between them.

Cheryl~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~@midian42~

I would double check on whether you can take amantadine and valtrex at the same time. Immunovir is an immune modulator so it's fine but I would def check to make sure amantadine and valtrex are okay together. These two antivirals may not be safe together. Obviously, I don't know the answer.

Good morning, all,

My son has MMR issues resurface again. In addition, we are still using Valtrex to address herpes remnants.

I finally was able to get my DOC to prescribe Immunovir.

Is giving Valtrex, Amantadine, and Immunovir to much?

Thanks,

Jerry

Now I have another concern - the way the amantadine is being stopped and started. RNA viruses (which MMR falls into) mutate even faster than DNA viruses. I would think the amantadine has the same viral mutation concerns as valtrex. When you take antivirals inconsistently, you run the risk of viral mutation because all you are doing with them is inhibiting replication. Once you let replication start back up, you risk mutation. Doing it over and over increases that risk greatly. So having stopped and started it twice would concern me - although since I know little about amantadine, I would defer to the doctor until I learned more. Again, these are just my thoughts. But I would definitely say that starting at a lower dose and working up is probably a good idea.

Let *me* be more specific: It's not the time that would concern me, it's taking two antivirals. I would double check to make sure that taking them simultaneously is safe. If it's not safe to take them both, it doesn't matter how much time you put between them.

I would double check on whether you can take amantadine and valtrex at the same time. Immunovir is an immune modulator so it's fine but I would def check to make sure amantadine and valtrex are okay together. These two antivirals may not be safe together. Obviously, I don't know the answer.

Good morning, all,

My son has MMR issues resurface again. In addition, we are still using Valtrex to address herpes remnants.

I finally was able to get my DOC to prescribe Immunovir.

Is giving Valtrex, Amantadine, and Immunovir to much?

Thanks,

Jerry

I stopped the Amantadine since I thought my son was allergic to Amantadine and not thinking it was a vaccine rash reaction pushing the virus out through the skin. We kept the Valtrex until mid December 2009.

Amantadine really affected my son's sleep....was waking up ultra early....(sleep issues is listed side effect).....so I ended up giving it to him in the mornings....he's still getting up early, but not as early as before.
