Hi ,

It would be great if you post what you do eat, It will be great to get some

ideas off you. I try to eat less than 80 grams of carbs per day. I realise that

this isn't anything near the Burnstine diet, but some meal ideas will definitely

help.

Cheers,

Brett.

challenge me, I dare you!

I knew that subject would get your interest and cause you to read this one.

*grin*.

I need you all to challenge me.

How you might ask?

I need every person on list here to challenge me to go back on Dr Bernstein's

diet so that I can extend my life for my 4 children and my wife.

I realize that this is ultimately up to me, but coming to you guys for support

is a good thing and I could use the help.

I'm 37 years old and my doctor explained to me and my wife recently that my

life expectancy is 50 years as a type 1 diabetic.

I currently weigh 200 pounds and prior to going off Doctor Bernstein's diet I

weighed 165, the lower end of my BMI.

Currently my a1c is 7.2, my LDL cholesterol is 195, and I am not in the best

condition I could be for my family.

While on Bernstein's diet, my LDL was 80 and my a1c was 4.8.

So, friends, please write me off list or on list and kick me in the ass and

tell me to get back on the diet!

Looking for some support...

sHi :

I hate to ask this but what is the Burnstein diet? Diet and I just can't seem

to get along very well. I just get this negative

feeling when I hear diet and I can't seem to stay on them. I am eating a basic

diabetic diet accept once in a while when I um um um

um cheat! But what I find works well for me is to eat pretty well what I want

but about one third of what I used to eat. I am 220

now, but I was 296 so I am coming down down down. When I stuck to real serious

dieting I would lose but as soon as I went off just

a little bit, I would gain everything back and then some. But I know I need to

lose a lot more. I would also like to live a longer

healthier life for my family. So! What is the Burnstein diet? Maybe I won't

get that awful horrible negative feeling with it. My

sugars are a lot lower then they were. My average is about eight point two. I

am not sure what that is on the other scale.

To keep spiritually fit, consult the Great Physician.

Hi ,

I don't post on the list very much but I lurk allot. You know we at least me

anyway, I look up to you and I'm surprised that your having trouble with your

A1c being so high. But at the same time I know you are down and I want to be

there for you. I know you can do what you need to do. You just need

encouragement and I hope I have given that to you. You have always been kind to

us so now I think we need to be kind to you in return. Just keep the faith,

remember your wife and kids and you will be able to do what you need to do. You

can write me off list if you need too. when I was getting a divorce about 5

years ago you and a lot of the other list members encouraged me and it really

helped so I'd like to return the favor.

Hi ,

That is just it. Bernstein's diet is die with a T on the end *grin*.

You basically eat no carbohydrates and eat only healthy veggies and healthy

meats.

By doing this, you remove the blood sugar spikes, lows, etc. and normalize your

sugars.

When anyone starts the diet they need to cut their diabetic medications back

drastically since they are used primarily for fighting blood sugar spikes due to

eating carbohydrates.

Hi Jenn,

Any little bit helps in this fight and, this is a fight no matter how we look at

it.

Yes, lets all hold one another accountable and start posting our sugar results!

I am going to start an email thread called your blood sugar results that all of

us can post to. This way whoever doesn't want to follow it can skip it.

Regards,

Re: challenge me, I dare you!

*rub hands together* hell yes! Thanks ! I will start on the diet

tomorrow morning for breakfast.

This was exactly what I needed... another partner... just like lifting

weights... I need someone to spot me!

Thanks man!

I'll post my blood sugar results, what I eat, 2 hour post, etc.

Currently, prior to going on dr B's diet, I am dosing 16 units of humalog to

cover 90 grams of carbs each meal. 2 hour posts are never below 120, lucky

if they are below 180. Lantus is 4 morning and 8 in the evening.

Tomorrow I start on the diet. I will cut my humalog back to 2 to 3 units for

breakfast and settle down for a few scrambled eggs.

Thanks again , I need the help and glad you stepped up my friend!

justin, i think of your baby daughter and that brings me to a new high, a good

high on life. thoughts of her will inspire us all.

justin i told you i was on new meds with the addidingtons disease thing. well

this morning my blood sugar was six point two. i did my six units of insulin

which should have been fine.

two hours later i was two point three, i did two glucagon which should have

brought me up but still felt low so did crackers and cheese.

I am sorry but I just ran across this post.

Yes, I will challenge you on the part of Crystal, my wife who is now on this

list as well.

She will be glad to follow the diet and meal plans you send us. In fact, my

friend, *I* will also follow the diet as I seriously need to loose about 30

pounds.

I will also call you from time to time to see if you are *really* sticking

Hi ,

Cool, thanks, I will be watching with interest. My main problem trying to stick

to 80 grams is that a lot of what I eat is the same so can get a bit boring and

that causes me to break out a bit. So seeing others meal ideas should help.

Good luck with the normalization diet.

Cheers,

Brett.

challenge me, I dare you!

Regards,

My big weakness right now is lattes! I need to lay off the lattes and I bet

I could cut down 100 grams of carbs right there just from the milk and/or

flavouring!!! I totally failed today, ate over 250 grams of carbs, but I

will try again tomorrow!

It is really ot that hard ot follow a low carb diet without it being a

Bernstein. Just eat low fat meats such as chicken, turkey fish and lots

and lots of green vegetables! Eat only one o2 pieces of bread a day and

maybe ne fruit and you have less than 100 grams of carbs that way. You will

find yo need less insulin that way too.

Don't worry about it Jenn, take it day by day. You'll nail it soon enough!

Even if your blood sugar results are not the best, post them. This helps you see

them and be accountable.

I hate posting bad blood sugar results but I am doing it. *sigh*.
