Guest guest
Hello , Good for you for losing all that weight. You are ding what many other Americans need to do-cutting down on the size of food portions. Eeen those who eat healthy foods often eat too much and thus do not lose weight. Google Berstein and you will find sites on which you can read more about him. I eat low carb, but just want to strictly follow his 30 carbs only of carbs a day.. I use an insulin pump and keep my A1C under 6, so I don't think doing his diet will help me much more than I already do; plus I am just not willing to completely give up an occasional piece of bread or fruit! Re: challenge me, I dare you! sHi : I hate to ask this but what is the Burnstein diet? Diet and I just can't seem to get along very well. I just get this negative feeling when I hear diet and I can't seem to stay on them. I am eating a basic diabetic diet accept once in a while when I um um um um cheat! But what I find works well for me is to eat pretty well what I want but about one third of what I used to eat. I am 220 now, but I was 296 so I am coming down down down. When I stuck to real serious dieting I would lose but as soon as I went off just a little bit, I would gain everything back and then some. But I know I need to lose a lot more. I would also like to live a longer healthier life for my family. So! What is the Burnstein diet? Maybe I won't get that awful horrible negative feeling with it. My sugars are a lot lower then they were. My average is about eight point two. I am not sure what that is on the other scale. To keep spiritually fit, consult the Great Physician. Love and hugs, and the furry ones. challenge me, I dare you! I knew that subject would get your interest and cause you to read this one. *grin*. I need you all to challenge me. How you might ask? I need every person on list here to challenge me to go back on Dr Bernstein's diet so that I can extend my life for my 4 children and my wife. I realize that this is ultimately up to me, but coming to you guys for support is a good thing and I could use the help. I'm 37 years old and my doctor explained to me and my wife recently that my life expectancy is 50 years as a type 1 diabetic. I currently weigh 200 pounds and prior to going off Doctor Bernstein's diet I weighed 165, the lower end of my BMI. Currently my a1c is 7.2, my LDL cholesterol is 195, and I am not in the best condition I could be for my family. While on Bernstein's diet, my LDL was 80 and my a1c was 4.8. So, friends, please write me off list or on list and kick me in the ass and tell me to get back on the diet! Looking for some support... Guest guest
, It is really ot that hard ot follow a low carb diet without it being a Bernstein. Just eat low fat meats such as chicken, turkey fish and lots and lots of green vegetables! Eat only one o2 pieces of bread a day and maybe ne fruit and you have less than 100 grams of carbs that way. You will find yo need less insulin that way too. Re: challenge me, I dare you! *rub hands together* hell yes! Thanks ! I will start on the diet tomorrow morning for breakfast. This was exactly what I needed... another partner... just like lifting weights... I need someone to spot me! Thanks man! I'll post my blood sugar results, what I eat, 2 hour post, etc. Currently, prior to going on dr B's diet, I am dosing 16 units of humalog to cover 90 grams of carbs each meal. 2 hour posts are never below 120, lucky if they are below 180. Lantus is 4 morning and 8 in the evening. Tomorrow I start on the diet. I will cut my humalog back to 2 to 3 units for breakfast and settle down for a few scrambled eggs. Thanks again , I need the help and glad you stepped up my friend! Guest guest
, If Bernstein worked for you, then yo need to go back on it for al the reasons mentioned. But remember the age numbers doctors give you are ridulculous. My mother was told in 1944 when I was 22 months old and diagnosed with type 1 that I would not live to 30. Well here iI am age 66 plus, still kicking despite complications and I never folloed anything like a Bernstein diet and still don't But what works for one person does not necessarily work for all. But if if it worked for you, you ned to do it again! challenge me, I dare you! I knew that subject would get your interest and cause you to read this one. *grin*. I need you all to challenge me. Guest guest
What the hell do you mean, challenge, me You are nothing but a big fat sloppy pig, and your family will be better off if you were dead and they were collecting your social security benefits. If your wife got your social security benefit as a surviving spouse, and each one of your children got $500 each, this would be to their benefit if you were dead or maybe you can retire on social security disability benefits, where your wife, each child and all would get a similar sum of money. Thatmight be more than you earn now. Besides you would miss that sugar, refined carbs, cake, candy, glucose tsablets, ice cream, bread, rice, potatoes, white ones, and so forth and so on. You got to be kidding me. A good lawyer can get you fixed with all of this doe and in a couple of years after being on disability your family and especially you would be eligible to have additional medical and hospital benefits, as well as your family members may qualify for mecdicaid or medical or whatever, if you wanted it. Big daddy has come to town, socialized medicine that is, if you get the picture. The government needs more dependents, not producers. This way the politicians and government have you under their control and they can make a better decission than an individual daddy can.So get off this pitty walk. You can do it or just get a good lawyer. challenge me, I dare you! I knew that subject would get your interest and cause you to read this one. *grin*. I need you all to challenge me. Guest guest
I guess that comes with the territory, being nuts, and that is probably the reason I worked with the mentally ill for a life time. challenge me, I dare you! Guest guest
Hi , I would be interested in trying a lower-carb diet. Not as low as Bernstein, but maybe 100 grams a day or less. I currently don't limit carbs but I do count them, I probably eat 150-250 on an average day and 300 or more on days I eat out. I need to lose weight, though, and want to get my A1c below 6.5. I'm 27 and have had type 1 diabetes for almost 18 years. I use an insulin pump, and my last A1c was 6.9 although I think the next one should be better. I've only ever been below 6.5 once, though. I am working and doing graduate school simultaneously, and am out of the house pretty much all day on weekdays, which is partly why I don't think I could do as low as Bernstein and why I've never tried a low-carb diet before. Also that I don't cook much which makes things harder!!! My main problem is accountability, though; but if I followed you and posted my blood sugars to the list and knew others were doing it, that is pretty good motivation there!!! What do you think? Jen Re: challenge me, I dare you! Regards,

Guest guest
I am scared. I already have to count fluid consumption 1500ml per day and salt less than 2000 mg per day.Another thing to count? I have already heard complaints here on how I am not a number, and I don't like to be so restricted. I am a person with feelings, emotions and such. This damn normalization diet is a scam, don't you know that. It is not for every body. It is for those who want to live and are not afraid to die. Besides I am an old man 69years old. Don't you think it is time to stop sucking up all that state and federal retirement money and send it to Pakistan, China or somewhere it can be used by young folks.Since we are now a member of the global community, not just a simple USA citizen, wouldn't it be wiser for the money I can save the taxpayers to spend it in another country like England, Spain, India, China or South America even North Korea, you know a place where it is really needed, not in the USA when everybody will be retired soon and sucking money from the kids and grand kids.? Shouldn't Canada become the most desired country for migration of illegal aliens, you know those undocumented workers. I feel so guilty taking the money, but I guess I might be able to live with it, but it would take a lot of repenting on my part. challenge me, I dare you!
