Guest guest
Im confused..if you have high cortisol, why are you taking cortisol? Subject: Cortisol dosing question/high cortisolTo: RT3_T3 Date: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 7:51 PM Hello,I just joined this board and just started taking cortisol 3 days ago. My cortisol is high, I don't have RT3 or thyroid antibodies, but my T3 is in the low-normal range. I have had high cortisol in saliva tests for the last 3 years and probably before that even. The last test I had was a year ago, but my symptoms feel the same. I have had trouble tolerating cortisol, T3 and thyroid medicine in the past, so my Dr (Naturopathic) put me on 2.75 MG's compounded bioidentical cortisol twice a day. The first 2 days I had very bad migranes, (first day I slept for 5 hours after taking the dose) and other bad feelings - fatigue/spacey, warm in the face. Today I doubled the dose. I felt better, a little hyper - but that is ok I will take hyper - I am never hyper! No migraines but tired in the early evening - still tired. So my question is, with high cortisol, is dosing the same as with low cortisol? I have the link to the STTM cortisol dosing schedule, but am not sure what to follow. Also fyi I will eventually be adding in T3 after this part is working. Thanks in advance.------------------------------------

Guest guest
In the past I have taken PS for the high cortisol. That has not worked so well, brought it down a little but not enough. I am taking cortisol now to give my adrenals a break. Then I plan to add in T3. I have been on the cortisol for about a week now and doing ok, but still having some symptoms. I am taking about 20 MG give or take. In the beginning I didn't realize that the low dose I was taking was causing it to crash too low, resulting in bad symptoms. There is some reason my adrenals are pushing out so much cortisol but they have been doing it for a few years and I suppressing them for a while is a good idea if I feel good enough on the cortisol. Comments welcome, thanks. Comments welcome, thanks. Being hypo is a reason for them to push out too much. From what I can gather reading between the lines of what is published a common sequence as the thyroid sinks is for the adrenals to make more cortisol to compensate for lack of thyroid before they end up " burning out " . If you catch the hypo before the last stage then you can be in the " too much cortisol " stage and hopefully fully treating the hypo will lower it by both taking away the reason for it and also utilising some of the cortisol as the T3 gets into the cells. Guest guest
LOL I can see that Val, I have been on the real thryoid group and STTM a while back when I tried thyroid medication that didnt work. So now this is the method I'm trying. The moderators on there say people on there with high cortisol have taken cortisol too. I think there is even on string that you posted on STTM responding to people with high cortisol taking cortisol. Anyway, when I add the T3 in hopefully soon, I will see how that goes - I am sensitive to everything but tolerating the cortisol although I am tired and kind of out of it, just a different kind of tired an out of it than usual. The T3 will be a very low starting dose so hopefully I'll handle it well, because my T3 is on the low normal end of the range, has been for the last few years and I have had " chronic fatigue " for the last few years. Keeping my fingers crossed. > > I have not found ANY place I would recommend for treatment. Guest guest
From what I've been reading, high cortisol, like I myself have, long story,is putting more of a strain on the adrenals, and putting the person on an additional type cortisol, gluticocid? Is a way of resting the adrenals?? So they don't burn out? I'm still trying to learn/study this.,I also had been trying in the past,to lower my cortisol with the recommended supplements, but now I'm wondering if this might infact be a bad, counter productive thing,or way of doing it??? To high cortisol isn't a healthy thing, and in my case seems to be surpressing my immune system,as well as adding to my osteoperosis, but now with my possible new diagnoses of locah, and how its treated,is a whole different confusing ball game!! Guest guest
It is confusing, I'm still pretty confused and have to see how this goes. I do still feel tired and a little spacey on the cortisol, but part of what cortisol does is suppress your own cortisol. I would like to learn more about it. My naturopath recommended the book " safe uses of cortisol " by Jeffries. I am unemployed though and it's not a cheap book! So that may have to wait. I am just hoping that taking cortisol will shut mine down a little. Don't know if this will work or not. Another way IS by reducing your cortisol through phosphitydl serine PS for short, melatonin at night, no caffeine etc. I have tried that and reduced it a bit but still pretty high. Of course I couldnt take PS throughout the day it just made me too tired so took a high dose at night before bed. Just waiting for the T3 to arrive - hopefully on Friday! > > From what I've been reading, high cortisol, like I myself have, long > story,is putting more of a strain on the adrenals, and putting the person > on an additional type cortisol, gluticocid? Guest guest
I have taken zinc on and off in the past, but actually just got a good acqueous zine - liquid which tastes like water if your zinc is too low and tastes like horrible metal if you have enough zinc. Right now it's like water with a very slight taste to it for me. So I know I need to keep taking it. I haven't tried DHEA but my DHEA levels in the saliva test weren't low. I don't know if I can continue this though because I am not feeling great on the cortisol, it's been over a week, and breaking out a lot too from it. Moon > > Have you also tried Zinc and DHEA?
