Guest guest
Thanks for starting this post Lexie! Very timely topic for the current place I am in my IE journey. I'm a bit behind on my digest reading so if this is late, I apologize. As I started my IE journey I didn't have much anger towards dieting and the diet culture. Instead, I directed my anger inward...angry with myself for not being able to automatically drop the diet mentality that has been ingrained in me from almost birth. I'm finding now, though, my anger is shifting and is starting to be re-directed at diets, the people who promote them and the industry that profits from them! The change came when a couple people here at work who are WW die(t) hard believers decided to start an at-work WW meeting/group. I'd see these signs posted all over the work place promoting the upcoming meetings. I'd overhear the WW organizers tell anyone who would listen about how wonderful WW is because it teaches you - and I'm quoting - "a lifetime of healthy eating habits". (As far as I know all WW and diets in general taught me was how to be really good at math and counting and oh yeah, food obsessing and self-hatred as a bonus). Anyway, I digress - can you hear my anger? LOL Anyway, everytime I'd see the signs that said "diets don't work" or "diets are mean" or overhear these WW fans spouting the corporate line of b.s. my blood would absolutely BOIL. But, I'd tell myself ", calm down! Respect each person and their choices even if they are not ones you agree with. Each person has his/her own journey and its not yours to choose" Still, I'd been working really hard to resist the temptation to rip the signs off the walls or erase the WW dates from the white board calendar in the reception area. Well, I'm embarassed to say today I fell to that temptation. I was shredding paper in the copy room and saw a sign for WW that said "diets are mean" on top of the mailboxes. I grabbed that sucker and fed it through the shredder! Horrible, I know!! How completely and utterly disrespectful to destroy that! But, let me tell you something - as wrong as it was, it was one of the most liberating feelings in the world and I highly recommend it! Down with diets!!! ~ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.

Guest guest
, it sounds a bit 'one sided' to me too. I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be if you posted an 'alternative' message right next to the WW ones?!? Something along the lines of - Hate dieting? Try Intuitive Eating instead. Its a life change that supports YOU. I'll never diet again :) (followed by a couple of web sites on IE) Of course the end results will most likely be that the management will take BOTH signs down. But that would be nicer for you anyway ;-) Katcha > > I'd see these signs posted all over the work place promoting the upcoming meetings. Guest guest
Oh my gosh that is hilarious!!!! I used to direct all my anger at myself as well. I didn't know what else to do with it!! I'm learning! > > Thanks for starting this post Lexie! Very timely topic for the current place I am in my IE journey.
