" ), you are in water, and of course you have the cellphone if you get into trouble. I gather that in South California you don't really have to worry about the sharks, either (they are in San , anyways). I wonder if the newer surfboards have built-in pockets for cellphones? Probably the reason is that I am pretty short-sighted, and I don't think contacts or glasses are viable options for surfing. For the same reason, I've never been too fond of swimming. So, I guess I'll never go surfing. That's OK, I'm too old to be a yuppie surfer, even if I do have a cellphone. Stay out of the rain.
