Unfortunately an HSG will not accurately be able to tell the difference between a BU and an SU. They look almost exactly the same on the Xrays. SO what you should ask is what additional tests are needed. I had an MRI. Some people go directly to laprascopy/hysteroscopy. What I'm learning (from others in the group) is that even if the doctor has an opinion on BU vs. SU from the HSG, they can be wrong because it is very hard to tell. My doctor told me at my HSG that I had a septum. When the report from the radiologist was done, it said that it was either a " partial septum or partial bicornuate " . Turns out that my doc was right (even though he's just an OB)....it was a septum. I had the surgery to remove the septum on 11/6 and am practically fine already. I have a follow-up HSG at the end of December and, if all is well, can ttc in the January cycle (HUGELY quick and HUGELY exciting for me!). Hope this helps....try to be patient because you won't get all the answers that you want or need at the HSG. The only thing you can do is be informed and " help " the process along by asking the right questions and scheduling and " pushing " appointments so it doesn't take forever. I knew that an MRI was needed so got my doc to order the test and scheduled it myself. When I walked into the RE's office for my initial consult, he said he needed an MRI and I handed it to him! It really helped to move things along because I had surgery the very next week (turned out to be the right timing in my cycle). Let us know how you make out! Unfortuantly, my HSG isn't this week..just my follow up appt. for my D & C. But, I want to discuss this w/ my dr. He already mentioned doing a HSG in a month or so...I just wanted to know what else to ask him about...so I will ask about the MRI. Thanks again and I wish you the best,

I guess i wasn't following the posts correctly. I had my D & E on 8/29 and my HSG on 10/10, so about a month is the right timing. You have to wait until you start cycling again then get the test between days 4-7 (I think) of your cycle. Cyn

Guest guest
Hey Hopefully your OB will agree to the MRI. When I suggested it to mine after I had my HSG, he said let's do u/s instead. u/s still showed BU. But I have an appt with an RE next month. It will be interesting to see what he decides to do! Good luck with everything. And try to stay positive! Tina 31, 2 m/c, BU > Thank you! > Unfortuantly, my HSG isn't this week..just my follow up appt. for my > D & C. I have a feeling my dr. will want to do a U/S instead also. But, it doesn't hurt to ask. :-) I am trying to stay hopeful at this point. Good luck with your appt. also, Take care, > > > > Thank you! > > Unfortuantly, my HSG isn't this week..just my follow up appt. for > my > > D & C. But, I want to discuss this w/ my dr. I am, largely due to the feedback and support I have found on the group here! DH doesn't really understand why, but they just can't fully understand a woman's body or what a woman really needs when it comes to things like this! I agree that if your dr won't do the lap/hys or the MRI after the HSG and/or u/s then you should probably still try to see an RE if your tests show a hear- shaped uterus. Only the lap or the MRI will show the shape of the outside of your uterus...if it's heartshaped on the outside and inside, then you are BU if it is round on the outside and heart- shaped on the inside, you are SU. But remember, there are also variations of this where an SU lady might have a slight BU shape to the outside too. It is all very confusing. But I feel that an RE will do his/her best to get to the bottom of your diagnosis. Good luck you are taking the right steps, Sara Su resected
