Very informative Peirre!

You know I still can't believe you were asleep for your cystoscopy!!! I was wide

awake watching it on a huge TV monitor! Thing that sticks most in my mind was

there was the Urologist, a female junior doctor and 4 female nurses and when he

pull the covers down every single person had a quick look down and I wanted to

shout " hey I'm nervous and it's shrivelled away! " :o)

Wow! All this is new to me. Trying to understand all this can be overwhelming.

To answer your questions...

I tried to gauge my temps about 5 months ago. Because I work (drive in a car all day) it was hard for me to be consistent. However, I find that I flutuate between 95.9 and 96.6. Seldom do I even make it to 97. Since I have upped my HC, I haven't tried to graph my temps...but...when I check thru out the day, it isn't showing much change.

How do I go about getting this Cytomel (T3)??? Are you saying I need to take the Cytomel rather than the Nature Throid?

I have suspected I might have diabetes for a long time, but haven't really been checked for that. I can't remember how my doc found the insulin resistance, but I don't recall fasting and doing the glucose test. Should I go get checked for diabetes? I'm very sensitive to anykind of simple carb so stay away from them. I can always tell when I've cheated....I feel it....my heart races, get dry mouth, thirsty.

How do I get the Cytomel and how do I deal with the possible diabetes?

Jan

Re: question

Generally I ask people to graph their temps to know if the cortisl is adjusted corectly. I use the method described at www.drrind.com to knwo when it is right,. You have one glaring issue and you can e to the right group with it, Your RT3 is WAY too high. Your T3/Rt3 ratio is 7.36 which is VERY bad as ti neds to be at least 20. I would suggest ou get som T3(Cytomel) and replace the natural thyroid with that. The reason for thi is Natural thyroi dcontains T4 and T4 is the prohormone for RT3 as well as T3. But when you have to much RT3 alreayd it encourages your body to make more RT3 and thus T3 goes down which RT3 rises. RT3 binds to the same receptors as T3 and effectively blocks the T3 from reaching the cells. This creates even MORE adrenal stress than just hypo by itself does. Ho wbad is youre insulin resistance? Have you had recent fasting glucose or A1c labs? I ask as something is making your body favor the RT3 prodution and as you are on HC in a fairly normal dose and your feritin is good, there has to be a cause of your RT3 we need to look for and I suspect Diabetes is one of the causes of it.-- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WVhttp://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/

Read Dr Riind's site about the temp graphing it is vital to have HC

dosing RIGHT as thyrodi cannot work right if it isn't. If I were you I

would go to a pharmacyand get a glucose meter so you can track it

yourself. Eating low carb will not always stop Diabetes. I was eating

Atkins diet whne I was diagnosed. It is a fallacy that diet is the only

cause of this and it si nothing to guess about and nto treat

immediately. The Cytomel is a prescription, hopefully your doctor that

rpescribes natural thyrois will be willing to script this for you. Yes

it is taken instead of Natural thyroid as you do nto want the T4, at

least for now. Once you have succeeded in clearing the Rt3 which takes

about 12 weekson T3 only, then you can decide if you want to stay on T3

or return to natural thyroid, but to do that we need to fin what is

causing your RT3 and fix it or it wil just return when you start taking

T4 meds again. Thsi si why i have decided o stay on T3 onyl I just make

RT3 the minute I take T4 in any form, including natuiral thyroid.

Valery,

Thank you so much for this information.

This is a whole new insight on my health problems.

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes last year and he has a glucose meter. I will start checking my sugar as well.

I was at 20 grams of HC for a long time, but noticed I was still not doing well, so I went up to 30 after reading all these blogs from other people with hashi's. I almost immediately started feeling better. It makes me nervous to think I might need to go higher than 30 grams of HC. Should I be? I will do my best to try to take my temps again. They've just always been low. That means low thyroid, right?

What do I do if my doc won't give me Cytomel?

Change docs.....again!! This is my third doc this year.

By doing the 3 times a day temps and graphing the AVERAGES it tells you

how your cortils levels are doing. they ned to be less than 2 tenths of

a degree from one day to the next for good cortils levels. Some people

do need mroe than 30 at least for a while to get their reserbves built

up, others are fine on that or less. You really can;t go by symptims as

many of the symptoms are the sam ofr lwo and high cortisol so it si good

to graph temps as you raise HC, but as oyu are already on ti, at least

do it for a week or two to see if you are stable or you can crash your

adnrelas with T3.

It i always best to try to get a doctor behind us, btuwe have sources

for T3 with no script if needed. I have had to self treat the last 15

years as my docs back then gave up on me and gave me less than 2 years

to live with congestive heart failure.. All caused by hypothyroid. So it

was a mutual washing our hands of each other and wow guess what I am 13

years dead and still going.

This is great advice. I will do my best on the graph to see how I'm doing.

You're right...

I may need more HC.....or....30 may be all I need.

Should I stop taking the Nature Throid? If so..how do I go about doing that...cold turkey?

I had stopped taking any medication for my thyroid for a couple of months and actually felt better then than now. I think you are on to something. Taking a T4-T3 medication is probably not the way I should go right now.

I sure hope my doc will give me the Cytomel.

If he doesn't....I'll go looking for ANOTHER doctor who will.

> If I took ferritin close to the test will it make

> my number appear higher than it actually is?

Yes. My endo insisted on drawing lab samples when I had taken everything that

morning. Results were ridiculous. Higher than those a month later when my

ferritin had risen another probably 10 or 15 points.

I noticed that it took 3 days for the black stools to be a normal color.

But I waited 5 days the second time.

It's take me just three days too for stool to turn normal color again.  I think 3 days is the absolute minimum and better safe with 5 days.
