Guest guest Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 Hi all- OK, I went to the doctor today for my latest thyroid blood tests. I am so irritated! I wanted to e-mail you guys right away (but there was no wireless access in the doc’s office!) and have since had time to calm down, but now I am gonna get all riled up again! So I said, “I know you are testing my thyroid – can you tell me which tests you are having them run?” And they tell me “TSH and free T4” I asked about the free T3 and she says, no, it’s not on there – let me ask. So I wait and she comes back and says, “We don’t think your insurance covers it, but we can do it if you want” And I said, yes, I do want it. I think they will still run it, but when they brought it to my doctor afterwards, I just KNOW she looked at it and said, “we don’t need to do that one” So we know how this is going to go, right? I will be on the phone, fighting my insurance company on this (and losing) Why is free T3 not a standardized test on a thyroid panel? From everything I have learned here for the past 6 months, this is the only level that is going to tell me and anyone what my thyroid is actually up to. Right? Isn’t this a MEDICAL FRICKIN FACT????? The only way my doctor is going to give me more attention on this, is if my TSH is through the roof and then they can pump more synthetic T4 into me. Or if it isn’t through the roof, then I can hear “Nope, sorry, you seem to be fine, let’s back you down to 50 mcg and oh, yeah, sorry things still suck, how about this nice prescription for Welbutrin? (I did hear that one before my initial test results came back, before I practically had to scream at her “I am NOT depressed!!!”) *** counting to 10 and back, and back again*** I guess I should wait for the results and then post them, before I go off the deep end here, but I am just SO SICK of this attitude. Don’t the Pharmaceutical weenies know that they have a golden opportunity here to mix something up that supplements T3 AND T4 and can make them bazillions of dollars? Oh, wait, there IS a company that does that. Lotta good that’s doing them…and me… (and several others on here). Thanks for letting me Rant & Rave!!!!!!!!!!
