Guest guest
The feet and ankle swelling is very common to Grave's. It looks like you've got the beginning phases of Grave's, but you do obviously have Grave's, no doubt. You need the lab results. Your allergies sound more like low adrenal problems. Healthy adrenal glands definitely help with the immune system. Every thyroid med in creation says in the insert to have the adrenals tested before starting thyroid hormone or any thyroid treatment. new > > > Hello, I am new here, but I have been snooping for a bit trying to > find out some info.. > I started out going for allergy testing because for some reason I am > super sensitive to allergies that never seemed to really bother me. > The allergist did the allergy testing and I showed sensitivity to > everything, he also noticed I had a large goiter and sent me to the > doctor's for evaluation and would not give me my allergy results > just said to come back for testing after my thyroid was taken care > of.. > Testing and specialists between Nov/Dec.. > Results-maybe subclinical hyper?? > Tsh is low but still in range, FT4's and FT3's are high but still > with in the normal range or just above.. > Did the TSI testing >5 Graves >15 active graves..I tested >10?? > So not sure which way I am going but I definitely feel way out of > whack.. > I do know the inflammation of my neck has gotten worse and although > I am not 24/7 with the symptoms but they definitely hit me.. > I do not redo my TSH til the end of March, and then every 3 months > to be monitored. > I am trying to find info out about the feet though..lately they are > just killing me, they burn and cramp and I get sharp pains in > them..does not matter if I am sitting or standing or sleeping? > It is almost like they are swelling and getting all calloused just > on the bottoms? > Has anyone heard of this or had problems with this or know of > anything that can help? Guest guest
new I have been diagnosed with Graves and I have sharp burning pains that shoot through my feet and lower legs. They come on suddenly...shoot around a bit and disappear as quick as they came. Never know where they will be...one time shooting up my big toe and up the top of my foot...or could be my shins...changing and moving. I have noticed a bit of callucing on the bottoms of my feet, but nothing requiring more than a foot lotion and filing in the shower(gosh, now everyone knows my showering habits..lol). Anyway...I hope it helps to know that someone else has experienced similar pains. I am new, here, too, so I'm limited in offering any suggestions on how to eliminate the pains. Guest guest
Thanks for the response.. I do not get my labs redone until the end of March. My endo says basically my problem is that someone noticed the goiter before I really had any symptoms and if it was not noticed I would only now be starting to seek a doctor for the symptoms? So now I am retesting every three months until my numbers require treatment. I did go into a drop in medical clinic over the week end because on my feet at work they were hurting big time. The doc told me my problem is I have inflammation/swelling in my feet that is causing flat footedness and that is why I have the pain. He had no idea why.. and no other suggestion other then to stay off my feet as much as possible.. great..I work and have 3 very active boys.. oh and I do not drive..I walk or bus everywhere. > The feet and ankle swelling is very common to Grave's. Guest guest
Hi, Kats3 The foot thing.. I had that when I was hyper.. it started a few years before I went into thyroid storm. I'm not really sure of the mechanics of it. I've not read anything about it... but when you're not hyper anymore, my feet anyway, went back to normal. On mine the calluses got so thick that to bottoms of my feet couldn't breath or sweat.. My feet would 'burn' cause they couldn't release excess heat (we lose 30% of our body heat through the bottoms of our feet, 50% through the top of our heads and only 20% through the rest of our bodies) Since you are 'within range' It's gonna be tough to find a doc that is going to try to help you much. To be fair, I'm not sure that the risks involved with antithyroid drugs would be worth it to you.. But I wonder if some of the things that I did while my hyper increased might help you, too. These were things that I spontaneously just started doing, not realizing the why or anything. I started eating a LOT more of the following foods: Kohlrabi (sliced and eaten like potato chips), strawberries, Brussels sprouts (barely cooked, still crunchy) broccoli (raw), cauliflower (raw). Roasted, unsalted soy nuts. Raisins. I've also learned since then that eliminating iodine reduces the thyroid hormone that the gland can produce (now, those that are hypo don't run out frantically waiving your hands looking for iodine to help you, for most it will do more harm then good, it depends on what caused you to go hyper in the first place.) Allergies and hyper sensitivities are not at all uncommon for someone in a hyper state.. reducing the 'hyperness' will reduce the body's perceived stress to the allergen... I hope a thought of two that I've shared may help... or spark a thought in your head that may.... Guest guest
Thanks for the response..being subclinical I understnad the thyroid /antithroid relation so no meds for me as they would not be very productive. So for now I have to put up with being a little off..even if right now it is 1 am and I can not sleep. I found out the salt/iodine relation really quick and by fluke. Some mornings after taking the boys to school a few of us moms go out for coffee/breakfast. Two weeks ago we went to an italian bakery, and I had a ham & egg sandwich but you could taste the salt in it. By the time we got ready to leave I was a mess. You could see my tongue shaking and I was getting some really bad pains in the collarbone just below the thyroid..not to mention my pulse went through the roof. One of the mom's looked at me and said right away you have graves.. Now this mom has no clue that I even have a thyroid problem..so I have been staying away from it and the symptoms are a lot less with those regards so it seems to be helping a bit. > Hi, Kats3 > > The foot thing.. Guest guest
Hi, Know that sleep prob well had it for years and even sleeping pills will not help it. You need to get your adrenals checked or just get adrenal [natural dessicated] as you seem to be suffering from adrenal deficency. The docs do not know how to deal with this until it becomes a crisis so I went to a naturopath and she gave me RX 2nd visit and I now sleep the night away, except for the occasional bladder intervention. I also feel so much better and have lots more energy so I know that it works. Guest guest
When you are taking any of the synthetic thyroids, you have to take them on an empty stomach.. just a sip of water to get it down... The stomach acid needs to be as strong as possible to remove the sodium molecule that is attached during the manufacturing process.. if the sodium is not removed the T4, the thyroid hormone can't be used by the body.... Can you post your lab results for us to see? It would be good to see what your doc is testing for and how your levels are doing... Since you are on a T4 only medication it's important to see how your body is utilizing it.... We can get into that more later.... Right now.. your waking during the night the way you do is one of the classic symptoms of adrenal fatigue... have you ever been tested? What was your original diagnosis as to why you are hypo and need replacement? We might be able to help you improve on how the thyroid hormone is working for you... with proper supplements and watching the foods you eat it can really improve how the hormones work in your body... Glad to have you with us, ....
