Guest guest
Hi , Both my kids are tested yearly with only a TSH for now...but my kids are now 30 and 19, but testing began the fall after my April '96 diagnosis. How old are your kids now? Something else to think about with autoimmune on both sides now is vaccinations...if they are under 3 years of age, you may want to consider holding off until age 3 for the remainder. Dr. Juddleson a pediatrician and head of the Erie County Health Department did a vax promo show last fall where many many people hammered him about removing the mandatory of vaccines...I asked about my grandsons because there is a history of 5 different autoimmune diseases in my family should my grandsons be vaxed, he said " with the history of autoimmune in your family, do not begin vaccinating before ages 2/3, preferably age 3 so that their immune systems have a chance to develop. " A friend of mine has this radio show taped, so something to at least be very aware of. Guest guest
Jody - Thank you so much! This is news I did not know or even think about! Mine kids are 7, 4, and 1. The oldest has already had all his shots, my 4 year old only has 2 more next year. My 1 year old is the current problem I think. He's up to date on all his shots for 1 year, except the MMR. I just had this really bad feeling about getting it (didn't have that feeling with the other 2, interestingly) so I just declined it this time (their ped. was really fine about it). So he's still got a lot of shots left. Does this info pertain to all vaxs or just certain ones? What exactly could happen if they are vaxed with their new autoimmune histories? I want to be armed with what could happen when I see the ped. next so I can make my argument. I so appreciate this info...I can't believe all I have learned from this board. None of the 4 docs I've seen have ever mentioned anything about this being a possible risk. And they all know I have young children. I think I've learned more talking to all of you and reading than from what any of the docs have told me. Re: What about children of GD parents? Guest guest
Hi , I wouldn't bother having antibody tests since antibodies only last a few months and are always changing. Teaching your kids healthy eating habits is probably one of the best things you can do. My husband's family is rife with autoimmune disease too, but so far our kids (who are probably older than you) have remained unscathed. Our daughter had subclinical hypoT in college that resolved on its own. They both exercise a lot, but not fanatically, and I think that helps. Guest guest
Hi , Ask your ped. if he/she is a member of the AAPS, if so that will explain why the ped. is okay with your decision to wait. Across the board all physcians and surgeons that are members of the AAPS voted to oppose mandatory vaccination last November. You can read that at http://www.aapsonline.org/aaps/ Actually you can get quite a bit of information from this site. Just take of the aaps/ from the addie and you will get their home page. I can send you some urls regarding vaccine safety if you would like to read some things. The decision to vax is up to each parent, but parents need to be educated and to learn how to vax safely. The triple jabs are definately not in my youngest grandsons future, though my daughter has chosen to vax once he hits age 3. Let me know about the urls and I will send them privately. Ironic how you had that feeling about the MMR...it is always good to trust a mothers instinct.
