Subject: Brainstem questionTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, September 9, 2010, 4:18 PM

Does anyone have experience with brainstems? My son tested with a "somewhat small brainstem" a few years ago. He is now almost 6, still has trouble with expressive language, very small (only 34 lbs), very low muscle tone, lots of stomach issues (gas, bloating, soft bm's). I guess my question is, if there is a physical problems with his brainstem, is it something that can be helped and can his situation ever be reversed? I'm not sure if I should request another MRI to see if it's increased in size. Is this typical in kids with autism and is there any hope?Thank you all for your thoughts, Nadia

Not yet, but we will be soon. We've done IGa and nothing came up. Right now,

we are gfcfsf. I had him gfcfsf from age 3 to 4, but weaned him off when he

stopped gaining weight. He's been back on the diet for 10 weeks now.

IGA? did they have possitive or negitive or numbers? IGA is the gut lining, so that number is important to have but doesn't rule out IGG issues

I'll have to look. I just remember that it showed that my son didn't have any

" allergies " to the common foods listed. And we had a celiac panel done 2 times,

years apart (one at 3 and one at 5).

IGE is PART Of the celiac panel so I am guess you are perhaps remembering it from that, but that the allergy testing would be (or should be) IGE.

Nadia,

Of course there is always hope. They told me my kid

would probably end up in an institution or a group home and the only institution

he is at is college. Don’t you believe them when they say he won’t

get better and don’t you stop working for your kid. That shrink who

gave my kid a life sentence at age four was the only thing that kept me going

some days when it was bad. I would think, excuse my French, “I’m

going to show that #@#@#@ & that my kid is not going to be

in a group home. Sometimes when it was crazy and I felt too exhausted to

continue I still had my anger. For my son we didn’t worry about the

size of his brainstem or what expensive tests were out there. We only

worked on improving his immune system and then catching him up on what he

missed while he was ill. Please email or call if you need an ear.

Been there done that.

agree on a more mild level, my son was never suppose to be able to talk again according to the nuro and he needed to be instiutionalize at 2 when dx he was so self abusive,. they were getting ready to pad his walls in his room, take out his toys, leave in only a mattress, and put a helmet on him. PRAISE GOD we found the die tect. NEVER give up
