Guest guest
HI Brad, You'll be getting more than a little feed-back on this I imagine! A lot of us have been using the Prodigy Voice. Ruth, who is active on this list, happens to work for a company that has something to do with either the distribution, and/or the customer service side of things. I'm sure Ruth will correct me on that since I have a feeling it's not quite right! Anyway, the Prodigy Voice uses a very small sample of blood and provides the result in only seconds. Everything on this meter speaks, including settings, repeating the reading, the date and time, and the history of readings. It also gives you a 7 day average, as well as 14, 21, 28, and 60 day averages. The only drawback may be that it is not available at local pharmacies. It is approved under Medicare and most insurances, and is available through a number of mail order companies. Are you by any chance using the Voicemate now? If not, which talking meter are you using? Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. (Proverbs 16:23) talking glucometers Hello to all my new friends. I am just wondering what kind of talking glucometers are being used and are they easy to use. My reason for asking is because I have had a few different ones over the years and the 1 that I actually kind of liked is not being made anymore and I have not heard if they have come out with a replacement. I am not really happy with the one I am using at the moment and am thinking of switching to another one. Any suggestions? Thanks. Brad Keller kellerb03@... Guest guest
Hi Dave, You almost got it right. I work for Diagnostic Devices who are the manufacturer/distributor of the Prodigy talking blood glucose meters. I am their Canadian representative and I do a little bit of everything. In particular I try to help anyone who needs help whether they are Canadian or American with their Prodigy meters. As for being available on a retail basis, DDI is working on that right now and hopefully it will be as simple as going to your nearest pharmacy in the future but we're not at that point yet. If Brad needs any information on where to purchase a Voice meter in his area, he can contact me off list at ruthh@... and tell me which state he lives in. I now have a list that covers different areas in the States where the Prodigy meters may be purchased. Guest guest
In fact I m using the Prodigy but am not sure if it is the voice or not. It does not spek the history, averages, date,or time. If it is supposed to I can't get it to work. When you turn it on it says in a female voice " thank you for using prodigy " then speaks the room temperature, asks to insert strip, then apply blood, then gives the result. I started out using the One Touch 2,then moved to the Voicemate, now this one. talking glucometers > > > > > > Hello to all my new friends. Guest guest
Hi Ruth and all, I have been getting my Prodigy test strips from a local Kroger pharmacy, and I plan to get my next Prodigy meter from them as well. Initially I worked with the manager of the Kroger pharmacy and Rick from Diagnostic Devices, and I've had no problems getting Prodigy strips since. The difference is it may take longer for the pharmacy to get the meter I want compared to one of the services like Liberty Medical who has it sitting on a shelf. Guest guest
Hi Dave, I agree, I use the progigy voice, and I love it! just 6 seconds, and, wa la, it's done... I get my 3 month supply through the mail, and a rep, always calls me one week, before it arrives, to let me know that it is comeing, and she, or he, tells me if I still use the same supplies, or if there is a change. they will let me know the date my supplies will be arriving, and it's been a year now, and it's never been late. I don't really mind it, because I get it every 3 months, and like I siad, my supplies last for about that time. sugar " I would rather walk in the dark with Jesus than to walk in the light on my own. Guest guest
You may or may not have the second generation of Prodigy meters. I don't know if the second generation, which was the Autocode, gave the temperature. I know the first one did. Brad, do you have to adjust the code with sighted assistance? If you don't, then you have the second generation, or Autocode. These are of course meters that will do the job, however minimally, but the only meter (made by Prodigy) that speaks every menu setting and history of readings is called the Prodigy Voice. This is the third generation of Prodigy meters. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Guest guest
Hi Dave, I'll tell you what I remember. It has been sometime ago. A man named Rick from Diagnostic Devices contacted me early on about the first prodigy meter. He asked what I thought of the meter and if I would contact my local pharmacy and ask them about selling the prodigy. I talked with the manager of the Kroger pharmacy where I shop, and she, the manager, was very willing to work with me and Diagnostic Devices. It took time, but they worked it out. This arrangements was with this particular Kroger Pharmacy only and not with the chain of stores, (Bummer!). Hope this helps. As a message from Danny indicates, apparently he was able to get his pharmacy to carry it. What goes? Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. (Proverbs 16:23) talking glucometers Hello to all my new friends. I am just wondering what kind of talking glucometers are being used and are they easy to use. My reason for asking is because I have had a few different ones over the years and the 1 that I actually kind of liked is not being made anymore and I have not heard if they have come out with a replacement. I am not really happy with the one I am using at the moment and am thinking of switching to another one. Any suggestions? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Dave, I will check with my work if I am able to give this out. After that, I will need you to contact me off list as this list is pretty big and I will need to send it as an attachment.
