Debbie dear,

Allow me to relate our historic juice mantra because this question arises

so very often with newcomers.

What we say is yes, your Lakewood Juice may be OK, but no one here really

knows. Their email response is not sufficient. A hard copy signed letter is

required about the ingredients and processing.

Once you get that we hope with all our hearts that the juice is pure as

specified

and if you are comfortable with using it go ahead.

However if you aren't getting the desired results, consider eliminating that

and just using the approved juices to be sure.

HI Debbie,

I was the one that mentioned the carrot juice. We used to use

Lakewood Pineapple, too. I hope Sheila is reading this because I'm

pretty sure she knows the answer to the juicing process. It has to do

with the way they juice the item - they can say pure juice nothing

added and be truthful, but the actual process produces something (was

it concentrated sorbitol???) that can be hard to handle for a damaged

gut.

All I can say, is that when we pulled the non-SCD-Elaine-approved

juices, things improved. Now, of course, other things were going on,

too and I am not as good as others at pin-pointing causes and effects.

What I will say is this, I felt better about it. When I went straight

back to using the stuff that ELAINE says is ok, I felt better - I

stopped wondering. I hope that makes sense...

Hi Debbie and ,

Some people do have problems with pineapple juice. (Phenols or

salicylates?) I believe they said the problem was raw pineapple or

raw juice - when cooked/boiled it was okay. Elaine has checked out

and recommend's Dole's pineapple juice (not from concentrate)

It may have been too much of a legal sugar hit (natural sugars)

Elaine doesn't recommend juicing veggies at first when starting but

to allow the gut to do some healing first. And then go slow with

diluted juice and work your way up to larger amounts slowly.

Yup, that's one reason to avoid juices Elaine doesn't recommend.

Juices that have been concentrated to powder and sold reconstituted

with water will have the naturally occuring sorbitol altered.

Sorbitol has been linked to diarhhea, bloating and other stomach

trouble. Please see

To echo if you do go ahead and use the Lakewood and don't

see the results on the diet that you think you should please try

substituting for the legal juices to see if that helps.

This is true. I juice raw fruits/veggies, but for Luke, the canned is actually

better. He tolerates very watered down Dole (1/8 ratio) just fine. Fresh is

not ok for him, neither is eating pineapples.
