Guest guest
Hello All & Happy New Year, I was hoping that several of you can help guide me into obtaining the proper information that I need. I manage a County Communications Center in the smallest County in New York. Some of the tasks performed by my staff are: County Fire Control Center (8500 dispatches per year) County Wireless 911 PSAP (75,000 911 calls received in 2006) Coordinate the County Police Frequency for some State & NCIC lookups but NO Police or EMS dispatching. County Fire Alarm Central Station for all commercial buildings only. (no residential) I have 15 dispatchers working the three shifts (12x8 , 8X4, & 4X12) with a three person minimum on days & evenings and a two person minimum on 12x8. I have only two supervisors: one of them works Tuesday to Saturday 8X4 and the other works Tuesday to Saturday 4x12. I have no MIS staff but myself and the 8x4 supervisor maintain 1 AS/400, 33 Windows PC's, 12 Windows Servers and two automatic fire alarm receivers. In addition to the above, I have no clerical staff whatsoever. Today, I had a meeting with the " powers to be " and told them that it is my goal to have my staff performing EMD in 2008. With that I mentioned that there should be supervision 24 / 7 / 365 and that a clerical person and computer person should also be on board. They had a feeling this was coming because after they made us the wireless PSAP (2005) and we went from the 1500 land line calls (transferred to us for fire dispatch from 1 of the 8 landline PSAPS) to 75,000 wireless calls handled directly, they agreed to give me three more dispatchers and start plans for a new Comm Center. What they have asked me to obtain is a " road map to the future " for my division. Specifically, they want what others have done as far staffing & supervisors as well as how they achieved their EMD program. A firm has been hired to train us in EMD throughout 2007, but that's it. Any help and documentation that could be provided regarding the above would be greatly appreciated. Should you choose to email me direct, please do so at my work email address which is feuera@... Thanks in advance! Adam C. Feuer Chief of Communications Rockland County, NY Sheriff's Dept. Rockland County, NY Fire Control Ctr.
