Hi Phyllis

I can't believe what you went through with your spider bite. The pictures

looked like you must have been in such pain. I have never heard of such

devastation from a spider bite before. And I thought I was afraid of spiders

BEFORE reading your story :-)

I am so sorry for all you and your husband both have been through!

I had a saying from an old pastor of mine, and your Mom's reminded me of it. He

used to say, " For what has been, thanks; for what will be, Yes "

I always remembered that because it brings it down to a matter of faith in that

no matter what God allows in your life, He is still in control, and no matter

what, we can place our trust in Him.

Phyllis,

Are these spiders all over the country? I can't believe all of what you

went through. How horrible! I'm glad the wound has healed! I hope you and

your husband are doing well-I can't imagine both of you having kidney

disease! I think your attitude is wonderful and God will help you through!

Re: Hands and Feet/ Chronicles!!!

Hi ,

In 1968, my husband was diagnosed with manic depression. Then, in 1972,

lithium, touted as the miracle drug, was introduced into the U.S. So for 25

years he used lithium, faithfully keeping his level between 0.6 and 1.2,

Little was known about long-term effects until in a 2000 issue of JASN,

Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center published findings about LITHIUM

NEPHROTOXICITY: http://www.jasn.org/cgi/content/full/11/8/1439

For the last 4 years, he has had about 17% kidney function with creatinine

running between 4.1 to 5.0 and BUN in the 30's. So far no dialysis, but has

switched to zyprexa, and on about 10 daily meds, plus one weekly Procrit

injection.

As for me, in July 2002, I was bitten my one of the 3 necrotic arachnids in

the U.S., either a brown recluse, hobo, or yellow sac spider. If you are

interested, my testimony and photos are on line at:

1) http://www.highway60.com/mark/brs/bite.asp?Msg=325 and

2) http://www.sabramsmd.com/brs/brs_testimonial1.html

Since then, all my allergies, rashes, and purpura have appeared and

escalated. Before that, I was in excellent health, no meds, surgeries or

debilitating illnesses. Now, 2 years later at 62 yrs old, I'm in HSP with

IgAN. For the last 20 years, I get my annual bronchitis, so who knows, could

have been harboring IgAN for the last 10-20 years and the spider bite was a

coincidence or a catalyst. I'm on prednisone, cozaar, and fish oil.

My outlook is good; of course, I'm concerned, especially about teaching 2

more years until our daughter finishes college. But everyone has his trials;

my concern is for all, especially the children.

From my Mother who has had more than her share of trials, a great faith:

God is here

He will see me through.

I thank God for everything.

[And all of you on this website help too and are a great support!!!]

And , please let us know how you are doing.

Thank you, Phyllis

Speaking of spiders, the media here has been full of reports recently about

people finding live black widow spiders amongs their bunches of grapes

bought at the supermarkets. Now, we don't have black widows here, so they

have to have survived the packing and transport all the way from California.

our communication systems any destination is possible. Brown recluses are

all over too. That's why now, if I order anything, I open it outside!! There

are over 400 testimonies on this website:

ways here. Immune systems react differently to venomous bites. Phyllis

Phyllis,

I can believe what kind of damage these spiders do. When I was a kid, my

sister was bit by a brown recluse spider. She was about 14 years old. My

Mom initially thought that she had been burned by a heating pad that she had

used in her bed and fallen asleep with it on. The Doctor said that many

bites occur in beds, especially with brown recluse spiders because they like

the warmth and they like to hide, so to make sure that you pull your covers

up when you get out of bed in the morning. To this day, If I'm not going to

make my bed as soon as I get up, I pull the covers up. She has a very bad

scar close to her ankle about the depth of 3 nickels stacked together.

I know that this was a very long healing process, I'm just glad that you're

feeling better. According to our Doctor, these spider bites are very common

and they do so much damage because they destroy a very large amount of

tissue that radiates from the center of the bite. It has been so long ago,

can't remember though, if you can exterminate for them. Did he give you any

ideas for prevention?
