Hi Liz.

I felt like that almost right after I started taking some kinds of blood

pressure medications - especially the Cozaar-type drugs.

Later on, I started feeling like that just because of the kidney failure

(just about everyone I know who has advanced renal failure complains of

that). Cold intolerance is definitely a symptom of chronic renal failure,

but I don't recall being at that point. Anemia can cause cold

intolerance too, but anemia is easy to check.

Good thing you live in Louisiana then. You wouldn't want to be up here

today. We just got our first real snowstorm of the winter :)

cold feelings

> Hi - as most of you know, my 16 year old, , has been diagnosed with

possibly having IgA - they don't want to do a biospy now. I regularly read

the e-mails here and have learned alot over the months. has chosen not

to learn too much at this point because he wants to live a normal life and

not worry about it but he finally has a question for the group. He wants

to know if any of you are cold all the time. He says that even when others

are hot, he is cold even to the point of shivers. His girlfriend complains

that his hands are always cold. I thought I'd get some feedback from the

group, but plan on scheduling him for a doctor's appt. next week when he's

out of school (has mid-terms this week). Could anemia maybe cause this

coldness? I know his dad stays cold but that's because of the medication he

takes for high blood pressure, blood thinners, and chlosterol medication.

Please remember that we live in Louisiana and it is not very cold here - it

gets chilly - but the

Hi Liz,

is defininitely not alone on this one! I am freezing all the time, and I

live in CA! I don't know if it is the anemia or what it is, but my hands and

feet are forever very cold.

I think it's both the anemia and the blood pressure meds, plus just the

chronic renal insufficiency. There's just not as much good blood flowing

through the extremities.

,

I had a spell when my Epo was low, where I complained of

feeling cold most of the time, even on dialysis. Now I am onto my

doctor to increase my Epo as soon as it starts to drop (hence my

haemoglogin level) even though the hospital like to keep haemoglobin

on the low side for dialyis patients (low helps prevent clotting on

the dialysis machine and also helps with blood flow).

Hi Derrick,

It is always so good to hear from you. I think you may be right about the

Epo/anemia connection with being cold. I actually have been slightly adjusting

my injection dose to keep my hematocrit a little higher. I don't like it to be

below 38. I just feel so much better when it is 38 or higher. So far, they

have not slapped my wrist :-)
