Guest guest
Oh my WORD! what WAS she feeding that kitty? lol Fat cat contest ? All this talk about animals and weight...I just HAVE to show you all these... When my grandmother moved into 'the home' I got to keep the cat *sigh* ever see anything like it?? Consider these her "during" photos, she'd already lost some weight by this time, and she's maybe a pound or two less by now Adria

Guest guest
Oh my gosh, Adria! I think I am looking at pictures of Pepper's future! How much does your cat weigh? Pepper is about 16 pounds now and should be about 10 pounds. She eats all the time and won't have anything to do with the "late" cat foods. I could only make that available to her, but then she does not eat at all. Yes, not at all, I tried that thinking that she would eventually have to eat the diet stuff and she didn't eat at all for two days. That isn't healthy either, so now I just try to limit how much regular food she has access to. Jean190/142/13512/7/

Guest guest
why ;not try mixing the diet and the regular together then maybe she will try some of the diet. Laverne think spring
Guest guest
I tried that too and she wouldn't touch any of it. I am debating trying to switch her to a raw meat diet as that is pretty highly recommended for animals, but it is expensive and not nearly as convenient. Plus, in spite of her weight, she is very strong, healthy, and active. Guest guest
You might want to talk to the vet and see how long she CAN go without eating before it starts to be a health problem. It could be that the 2 days wasn't enough to really push her with the new stuff - she might just not have been desperate enough yet. Kirstie remembering that it took awhile before she was desperate enough to try Atkins rolls
Guest guest
Hi Kirstie, I thought about trying to wait her out longer, but my " mommy " heart couldn't take looking at those pleading eyes when feeding my other cats the food that she wanted so badly. I don't normally let my cats eat any human food, but have started feeding her some tuna as that is inexpensive and has all those essential oils, etc that are also good for cats. The price of tuna is low enough to be affordable and I keep debating a tuna cAtkins program for her. I know better than to think that human medicine is healthy for cats, but how about a human diet that improves blood profiles and promotes weight loss? As to the vet, he is a former Central football player that I had such a crush on when I was that age. It is no great burden having to take the cats to him, let me tell you. Anyway, I digress. After commenting that Pepper was " kind of a full-figured gal, isn't she? " , he suggested just making sure that I didn't leave food readily available 24 hours a day unless I was out of town. That has stopped the weight gain, but I don't know that she has actually lost weight. Jean 190/142/135 12/7/

Guest guest
, from what I gathered my grandmother was giving her 2-3 cans of wet catfood a day, plus tender vittles, plus one can of either salmon or tuna...and of course, leftovers.. it was so bad ...the cat would meow at her and my little grandmother would bend over and have to mash up the catfood so the cat could eat faster...argh...she also couldn't climb stairs, clean her own behind, or groom herself, she was covered in knots and smelled terrible..ick...she's down to 16 pounds though now! Adria OMG How can that cat even walk? What was he eating? I better stay away from whatever it was lol

Guest guest
it's hard with other cats eh? I've got three, my other 2 are thin little things, about 8 pounds each? and seeing as how cats eat it's hard to restrict just one. Psycho (or fattie as my kids call her) is down to 16, but she's so short she still looks huge...she used to be a sphere with a tiny tail, and a smaller head..looked ridiculous, I noticed the similar colouring in the cats though, could very well be the future! Mine is on only dry food now, I think it's helping..I hope. Adria Oh my gosh, Adria! I think I am looking at pictures of Pepper's future! How much does your cat weigh? Guest guest
Adria, How did you get Psycho to lose weight with other cats around? It really doesn't seem like Pepper eats that much any more and I do track it better now that I got rid of the self-feeder. Pepper is one of three also and it is harder with other cats around. She won't touch wet food other than canned tuna or chicken fit for human consumption, but she loves the carb laden dry stuff. Guest guest
Adria/ This is the problem with my fat cat (about 25 lbs.). It's hard to feed two other cats and try to restrict the third one. Plus, my DH is such a pushover that just one look and he has to feed fat cat a treat or something. He really spoils all of them. The vet said the fat cat had a metabolism problem also. Poor guy, I said one day he looked like a watermelon stuck on 4 toothpicks. Plus, he waddles like a duck when he walks. The only good thing is that it keeps him off the counters. When he was younger (and thinner), he always wanted to get on them. dwen Adria wrote: it's hard with other cats eh?
