Guest guest
, That is RIGHT ON the money !! I could put names with every one of those comments as I'm sure any other dispatcher/supervisor could as well. It's nice to see that although we may be 3000 miles across the country our worlds are really closer than some people think. Thanks for brightening my day. It would be far cheaper than a lobotomy, you know. Is it possible this is a generational thing? That would be " just looked at me funny, I want my mommy " generation. Guest guest
I also dislike December...it is supposed to be a time of joy and love. Yeah, right. Give me May every time. I have always taken a certain amount of satisfaction in the fact that my parents taught me to be polite and respectful to those around me in public. When I was able to do the " mall walk " , I couldn't believe the amount of rude and brash people who Christmas shop. Good grief! And the " I'm not getting enough sleep and haven't gotten my shopping done " mania seems to run over into the job place. It came to a point where I couldn't even enjoy the holiday meal and opening of gifts because of the fixation with perfection. Finally, I said, " the heck with it, we are doing the family thing in the evening, having sandwiches and a relish tray, and I'm giving everyone cash or a gift certificate " . Now I can eat bologna and carrots, hand out envelopes, there's no wrapping or heavy duty cleanup (cause we are using paper products with the sandwiches) and we can have actual family conversations. The cash comes in handy for after Christmas sales and everyone can go home early. Yeah, I know, Bah Humbug. But it has come to this. , Start shopping in July, put your decorations up right after Halloween and take at least a year to pay off the Christmas credit card debt. No wonder we can't enjoy the holidays anymore. And as for 's problems...she has ALWAYS shown that she has the disposition and wisdom to be a superb supervisor. I think she needs something less subtle than a taser....I think a ball bat is in order. I cannot imagine trying to answer or respond some of those remarks. Bathroom smells and cleavage? OMG. Let's try to keep our chins up and our sanity intact. Easy for me to say...I'm retired. I wish people understood how difficult it is to be a supervisor over a communications center. The buck always stops with you and there are so many thankless days. Thank you for your article. I wish I could say that it's good to know there are others out there ,but it kinda sad. Guest guest
My wife has SAD. As soon as the days start getting shorter - her mood changes completely until late spring. Even on overcast days or gloomy rainy days her mood changes noticeably. Our doctor gave her several options: take meds (she does), use tanning beds (she has), switch to special full-spectrum light bulbs in all our light-fixtures (we did). So far, only the meds have really seemed to help - but those even have crazy side effects. The only real cure seems to be pure bright sunlight and lots of it. Guest guest
I'm still trying to figure out how is spying on my comm center! LOL And I personally have IWSTSOMCW syndrome (I wanna slap the s--t outta my co-workers) syndrome. What a bunch of whiny-a.. crybabies! In the past week, I have been tattled on. I used a word that is not even banned on the radio! Horrors!!! Ok, granted, it was probably unprofessional to repeat that the caller thinks the juvenile suspects parents were never married. But was it worth running and tattling on? I think not... THEN the supervisor was actually surprised when he called me in to discuss it and I was RECEPTIVE. " Yep, I said it. Shouldn't have, knew it, sorry. " Apparently, that's rare. Imagine that, those folks that always complain about being treated like 5 year olds can't take constructive criticism!!! Then, yesterday, a co-worker called my station from hers, was extremely rude because I didn't know what transpired in the field! But I " m getting even....I passed out a few NCIC recert manuals, and then after tomorrow, I'm off for 5 days. Then, next week I'm out of " the Pit " to teach a class, come back for 2 days, then start vacation! Living well truly is the best revenge!
