Hello friends,

It's me again. Haven't written in quite a while, but I do try to read posts

when I can. I'm just having such a hard time and need to talk to you folks that

understand. The pain is absolutely incredible. Worse now. I thought that my

pain couldn't get any worse, but it did. I am on pain medication which helps to

take the edge off. But, now the pain is lasting longer, for days at a time, and

is now spreading to my lower arms and hands and fingers. It scares me so much,

because I don't know what the future holds. And headaches, holy mackeral.

Sometimes I just lay and cry and with my depression, wonder how much longer I

can stand it.

Can you tell me what works for you? What helps your pain? I really need to

know. How do you deal with this? I've had it now for approximately 4-5 years.

Is there ever a remission? Does it get more bearable?

Thanks so much. Norene

Hi, Norene. Sorry about your pain. I won't ask if you have seen your

doc. That seems trite. Anyway. I can't help much with pain med

advise. I'm still figuring that out and I'm not as bad off (thank you

Lord) as most. I've just started the Lyrica, which is the new hot

drug for FM. I've used and had success with many drugs but most

eventually fail. It's a matter of sticking with it until you find

what helps you. I hope it's not too long for you.

As far as remission, it can happen. I have had a time of about a year

pain free. No I wasn't pregnant or anything just happened, I guess

like everything with FM it's just a mystery. Hang in there and if you

are having depression problems that is normal. Don't be afraid to

talk to your doctor about it. Drugs may or may not help, therapy is

always good to learn how to cope with it and with fm and it's effects.

Well, now that I've talked your ear off I'll end. I hope you start

feeling better soon.

Tam

I just do not eat anything that has refined sugar or flour in it, I still have

things like sprouted breads, triscuits, and so on... but it is rather drastic,

but it has worked for me.

Hi ,

Fewer carbs and mor exercise can help you. But sometimes if you are already

eating low carb and exercising, it just means your pancreas is putting out

less insulin. Have you gained weight recently? That also causes mor

insulin resistance.

Also, test, test, test! That will tell more about how food is affecting you

than anything. If you test high after a breakfast with toast and ceral,

then that is not for you!s

Re: hello all

Just to be sure, so that newcomers or others who are unclear will know,

eliminating flour and sugar, or severely limiting these foods, is not

necessarily right for all diabetics.

There are many good reasons to cut back or remove flour and sugar (as well

as some other products) from our diets, but many diabetics are doing quite

fine while still including these in their daily meal plans. Those who might

benefit the most from this drastic, and arguably better, regime are those

who are very overweight, and/or have an extremely high A1C and are unable to

reduce high bg in any other way, and/or those who are elderly and very

sedentary.

As we like to say on the list, we're all different, and it comes down to

trial and error. Try one regime, and if the results don't work, try another

regime. Consult your doctor or endocrinologist, and never hesitate to ask

them questions. Put them on the spot, let them know you aren't necessarily

going to accept some text book method. And always feel free to bring your

questions right here to the list!

Thanks Pat for that often overlooked item. Most diabetics don't check their bg

enough. Your body is constantly monitoring the level of blood sugar in the body,

so the least we can do is check it at least every several hours. This is

probably more important to t1's since our bg levels tend to fluctuate more often

and more radically.

I think you are right Dave, but if a type 2 is losing the battle with

glucose control, frequent BG testing can help the doc. This is especially

true if the person also keeps a log os what they eat. Thanks to computers,

we can now do that!
