Epsom Salt baths..irritating skin during eczema outbreak..any alternatives?

I know from all the research Epsom salt baths are supposed to help but when my

son is in the midst of eczema out break (due to an allergic reaction) it seems

to worsen his skin..(I'm not entirely sure if it does but I know he itches more

and is pretty red post baths).

I know the cream is available but I have a feeling that would burn him

too..(unless I could get away with putting it on an islolated place like his

feet or something?).

any advice would be appreciated..thanks!
