I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for as to how to word it on the IEP? The IEP is supposed to be written first as to what his needs are, goals, objectives, etc. and then placement is derived from that. Is the district in agreement or are you having to try to convince them? Are there any other sped classes that might be more appropriate - language delayed, cross-categorical - or do you feel he's ready for reg. ed? Does he meet the " requirements " for kindergarten in your district? Another question: have you considered trying to get him a parapro while in the regular class? Give me some more info and I'll see if I can help... Thanks! Terry
Guest guest
Dakota was in half kindergarten and half special ed this past year. I forget the exact wording on the IEP. Basically, it said Dakota would be in Kindergarten for the social interactions (recess, snack time, etc.). He would then go to special ed for acedemics. But he was to be in kindergarten for as much as he could tolerate. (Which wasn't much in the beginning of the year.) This was for 1/2 days. He will repeating kindergarten this fall. He will go full days instead of half. The first half of the day he will be mainstreamed with the use of 1:1 aide from the spec ed class. Eventually they plan to wean him from the aide. They did this some towards the end of this school year. He was spending all morning in kindergarten without the aide but he was having a few more behavior problems. The second half of the day he will be in special ed. He will eat lunch with special ed class and an aide. Hope that helps. ---------------------------------
Guest guest
, Jake had half sped, half kinder last year. Since kinder is only half days here anyways, Jake attended a regular kinder in the afternoons (with an aide) and mornings he spent with the sped class. We had the IEP worded that way. We had great teachers in both classes and it worked out great. Janae , 9, ADD Jake, 6, autism

You can e-mail > me privately if you would like...... - well, there are 3 boys in my girls' class who attend 1/2 day kindy, and 1/2 day in LASS I don't know the specifics, though... All I know is that it's in the same school, they come to LASS in the morning, then 2 of them leave to go to kindergarten for 3 hours, then come back to recess with LASS, and finish off the day at LASS. I do believe this gives them the perfect exposure to the social aspects of kindy, while leaving them out of the academic parts of the class that may overwhelm the kids. There is one boy in the class that has lost his dx. Honestly, you would never be able to tell him apart from any other NT kid <aside from when he runs after trucks LOL>. But even he, in all his NT-ness, is overwhelmed by kindergarten after those half days He is beginning full days next year. One other kid goes to regular preschool. He comes to LASS in the morning and at 12:30 - my girls and he are picked up early. My girls come home to the in-home program, and he goes off to regular preschool for 3 hours a day, 3 times a week (MWF), again, for social skills. That boy also has in-home for 3 hours a day, and on MWF, it's delayed until 4 PM when he returns from a full day of preschool. <Kindergartens here are half days, preschools are full days, GO FIGURE.> Like I said to you on the phone, ................. MOVE! ;o) Grace
