Guest guest
Ok, some agree with narcotic medication and some don't. I respect anyone's point of view. But I agree with the majority of people here. I think narcotics should be allowed for chronic pain if it is the only thing that brings some relief and any amount of normalcy to life. And I also agree that addiction is not the issue when you can't get out of bed because of the pain. I have also heard the theory that the pain med will work on the pain and won't cause a " high " if you are using it for that purpose. It is only when you take it and are NOT having pain that it becomes a drug of potential abuse. As for increasing doses, yes sometimes. But my experience is I have been on the same dose of hydrocodone now for almost a year and have not once asked my doc to increase it and have not needed to do so. I take it as prescribed and it helps me to function with FM. It does not help me function because it is my " fix " . But if I had to stop this medicine, I would need to be weaned from it and not stop it suddenly. But that is the case with many meds and not just narcotics. Most seizure meds and antidepressants have to be weaned and not dropped suddenly. So I don't think that means I am a addict. I don't take any street drugs and I take what is prescribed. Guest guest
I take my medication as prescribed period. If I'm having a huge amount of break through pain for some reason I call the doctor. But some of us can't even get out of bed in the morning because the pain is sooooooooooo bad. Everyone has to use their judgement when it comes to something like medication and medication options. But we all still have the right to demand that we are treated with respect, dignity, that our doctors listen to us and that our pain is relieved. lyriczada Date: 2007/08/17 Fri PM 09:22:42 CDT To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Subject: Pain meds Ok, some agree with narcotic medication and some don't.
